I'll start it off this month, I picked up a bulk lot yesterday but I've been sorting them out and listing them in my catalogue today so that counts as September. I must say that I've been pretty lucky with the last 2 lots. Here's a small sample. I've pulled out 50+ silver coins to process
Απόσπασμα: "Mr. Midnight"Ive been obsessed with Monaco recently. now I have bought a FDC mint set, 1995
The ones from the 70s and 80s with silver coins are out of my reach, unfortunately, and i have non interest in the euro era.
Looks like those were minted on identical planchets as coins of the new French Franc.
yes, all Monaco new francs, since 1960, were minted on common planchets with their French counterparts.
The 1940s-1950s old francs were too. edit: with some exceptions.
edit to add, I am a little jealous that you can go to Monaco on a day trip if you like, and I will never go there.

Goes to show just how closely Monegasque (that's their demonym) numismatics are tied to French.
I could (and did) go to Monaco when I was staying in Nice a while back, and to be honest other than the novelty of being the second smallest sovereign state in the world, it just feels like any other French city on the Côte d'Azur. It's not like I've got millions to gamble away in their casinos either.... maybe I'll visit their coin dealers next time I go.

yes, one year only in Monaco. That was my 1962 entry in the coins by year thread.
The stainless steel France 5 centime, which also had a short career, was never issued in Monaco.

Wow! That’s quite an interesting lot... especially the 1935 New Zealand one shilling. Considering the year date, the coin looks to be in excellent condition...

Yes, it's so much better in the hand than it is in the picture, it has a nice luster that doesn't show up in the picture
A lot of 13 uncleaned and unidentified "ceitil" coins just came in the mail
This is the first time I am cleaning dirt encrusted coins so I am really excited! A bit afraid as well, but it is an experience I might as well have. I will only officially add them to my collection when they are cleaned and identified, so I'm not sure this will happen this month but I am so excited about them I can't help posting it here!

Yes, well I will never go to Nice or St. Tropez, either, or Hyères. Anyway, never mind the casinos, did you go to the aquarium or the Anthropology museum? I believe there is a stamp and coin museum there also!
And in fact, I see I have bought a few things from one of the dealers on your list, on ebay - hope to have something to post here in a day or two.
Do you know that song "Il fait chaud -oh-ooh, a Monaco -oh -ooh..." ? it's been stuck in my head all summer

Won last night (Thursday) at an auction (dealer's pics):
It may be possible to find out who Mr. Cullen was, especially that we know where he had his business. He was unattested until this bank token showed up on eBay, so there is no other coin or token to help us...

Nice. I like those counterstamps, I got one on a cartwheel twopence the other day
Never even heard of it I'm afraid.... I'm not much for contemporary music (I know how hipster this all makes me sound!), and generally I'm interested in popular music from the early 20th century. Most songs in my playlists are from roughly 1890-1940, and I'm getting particularly into big band/swing from the 30's right now.
Last week, it was my 18th birthday; I deliberately asked everyone I know to not buy me any coins (for obvious reasons), but I did go and treat myself numismatically for once; I don't remember the last time I spent more than 50 euro on a single coin!
Here it is, my first (real) Swiss shooting thaler:
I suspect it may have been cleaned previously, but still my new favourite coin.
On the side, here's an 1897 German East Africa 1/2 Rupee I saw going for a low price, and snapped up too:
Got a bunch of silvers coming on from Ebay too, but those haven't arrived yet.

I was actually planning on buying an Austrian commemorative shooting thaler from 1868, but someone else had apparently bought that coin just a few days before.
Not that I'm not happy with what I did get, of course!
This made me wonder whether Brunk's catalogue had any countermarks for New Zealand. He has only one which can be definitely attributed to NZ:
QUEEN STREET WHARF
AUCKLAND
TOLL
6 PENCE
Three specimens are know, all on Aussie ½d of unknown date, but obviously not earlier than 1911. This is something that could show up one day on eBay or elsewhere and go for $100 ... or $3 if nobody knows anything about it at the time of the auction.

Yes, that’s true! No matter how well you click pictures of your coins, they don’t look as beautiful as they are in actuality. I am sure your coins are prettier than the pictures too :D
I think that I may be out of my depth in this section with all the great looking coins that people are adding to their collections .
I got some more bags of 10p's looking for the "Alphabet" ones ( I'm in the UK ) from the bank & in one of them, some kind person had put this for me.
I didn't expect to get a coloured one for a long time .
Thank you,
Merv
Particularly satisfied with the Italian and German states coins, as well as the Décime of Louis XVIII; it's one of those coins that kept evading my grasp.
The silver Belgian 2 Franc coins are also a nice find, but my favourite is probably the Cyprus 1 Shilling from 1947 on the upper-right.
Been a little while since I got anything, but this arrived in the mail today. I've been wanting one since I found out about them, I think it's hilarious that he obeyed the Islamic law so literally he removed his face (while leaving the rest of the bust intact), but still has the Zoroastrian altar on the back
Just now got this wonderful token from over 100 years old ...
'Ye Olde "GAMBRINUS" Lager-Beer Hall 3 GLASSHOUSE ST. LONDON W'
so they must have sold strong beer back then as customers would maybe say
'is it me or did I just see a man waving a top hat go past riding a goat ?!'
Here are better images (of a different token, not mine) with a different address ...
and not sure whether 7 & 8 RUPERT ST. was an earlier or later address.
Obverse: THE "LAGER BEER KING" faithfully yours Chs. Manzel
Bored, drinking beer, and browsing coins on ebay... dangerous combination! Trying to only look at cheaper things, I'll have some random stuff to share here soon
Haha! shopping while drinking! Well, at least you are safely at home, you could get in worse trouble !
I went on a road trip and brought this stuff home today -
some Irish Republic half crowns, the start of a new collection
Some French 10 franc coins, I don't have much interest in new francs, but I like this big bronze 10er, and it is on a common planchet with one of my favorite Monaco types.
Lastly, some Latin American dimes and a quarter. all minted in Philadelphia, except for the 1963 Dominican Republic centennial coin, which is of 0,640 silver, and was struck at the British Royal mint.

I picked up 10x pre 1947 uk florins in f to vf for 70% of scrap price and this lot for 16 pounds (1950 uk proofs, a sixpence was also in the lot but not pictured)
Yes, just means token, I think. Most as you see are undated, but those in my collection
of French jetons that do have a date are between 1593 and 1750, so over 260 years old at least.
I was give a large amount of Australian pennies and half pennies by my great uncle.
There were also with some threepences, a shilling, a florin and the new pride of my collection a 1937 Australian crown. Along with some British, New Zealand and a Chinese empire coin.
More aussie coins from a bulk lot that I picked up for melt value. The photos don't do them justice. The parliament florin and the 1954 florin have glowing luster that doesn't show up in the pictures.
A bunch of nice, old, big silver coins arrived today :
1946 Romania 100,000 Lei - Mihail I
Really like this one! I think I'm going to go after the 25,000 Lei coin too. How many coins (other than the hyperinflation era German Notgeld) do you know with a six digit denomination?
1938 Yugoslavia 50 Dinara - Petar II
Probably cleaned/polished, and I think I overpaid a little bit for it; but nonetheless a welcome addition. I already had the 1932 Alexander I 50 Dinara, as well as the 1938 20 Dinara.
1948 Mo Mexico 1 Peso
Not very impressive, or expensive; I bought this for just 2,50 euro. But it was one of those common types that I didn't have that I should have gotten a long time ago, so glad I have it down now.
1943 Uruguay 50 Centesimos
@Mr.Midnight I now understand your love for those Uruguay coins!
I just today won this on ebay, paid a bit more than I wanted but I think it's really really cool. Picture is from ebay since I don't have it in hand yet, and I can't take this high resolution pictures anyway
I also picked up a 1976 Isle of Man USA bicentennial, just because I think it's hilarious seeing England and USA on the same coin
Been bored this last week and bidding on a bunch of auctions trying to catch the "no other bidder" thing, most are from overseers so might be a while

I haven't bough anything for months (I mainly swapped), but this month I've managed to get new coins. Some from swaps, and this time I spent money too.
Uganda 5 schillings. Came from a small collection of 200 foreign coins I bid. Whole collection cost arund 28€, so it worth it.
United Kingdom
Egypt - someone offered me Egyptian commemoraives for around 0.50€ each. I bought them all, and these are the ones I could add to my collection.
And last but not least, China and Chinese related coins.

What!
You got all those big silver commemoratives for 0,50€ each?!
I demand you get me in touch with whoever sold you those!
Seriously though, that was a nice deal you got. I'd be a bit more careful of those Fat Man dollars though...

They are not silver, they are copper-nickel qirshes.
Fat Man dollars are authentic in my opinion. They didn't come from the same place. Weight ok, size and thickness ok, edge ok, passed ping, ice and magnet test, checked with ultrasonic too. Also checked with magnifying glass, no sign of weak details and I also compared them to known transfer die fakes. Their only problem is that they were cleaned.

There were also brass and copper-nickel issues But still a fantastic deal!
Here in my country most collectors only collect Hungarian coins. Modern foreign issues are very cheap, even if they are rare. The best part is that most people usually don't even care to search on the web about the coin they sell (mostly because they only speak Hungarian), so generally you can buy non-precious metal coins from Europe (+USA, Canada) for 0.15-0.30€ each and exotic (Asia, Africa, South-America, Oceania) for 0.50-1€.
Απόσπασμα: "Monninen1"Thats a nice coin! Is it Russian? I own one similar coin, https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces112412.html . Here in Finland we call them "Tipparaha", meaning "Drop money" or "Droplet money".
Yes it is russian, wire money because they'd hammer a piece of wire and break it off, resulting in an oval shape with 2 break spots on the ends. But this is also an error coin, it was flipped over and re-struck
Got these in the mail today,
tin 1 Pitis from Palembang, Malay Peninsula, 1789. Is this the small or normal "0" variety? It's obviously not the retrograde "2" (wouldn't that make it a "6"?) and not the 123 variety either. The date 1203 is at the very bottom
And an 1800's Moroccan piece, the reverse is a layer of tan colored dirt, I'm debating how hard I want to try and clean it to see if I can get an ID. For now it's soaking in some soapy water.

Turkish hyperinflation non circulating (there are a lot more like this, check catalogue). These coins have the largest number of digits on them as far as I know. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces95976.html

I like very much the 1927 Parliament florin. It's so... 1920s. While Canada and Newfoundland got their own coinage several decades before Australia, it took us a longer time to have pictorials on the reverse, except for the 1912-14 gold $5 and $10.

The picture has enough quality to id: here it is on Numista
Awesome, thank you! The seller had it listed as Boris Godunov, 1598-1605, but none of those matched the lettering, so I figured it had to be another ruler.
- Bulgaria 100 Leva 1934

Been quite busy the past few months so haven't had the time to spend on purchasing coins until now . Still swamped, but have a bit more breathing room...

These are harder to find than just about any type from Monaco. Only 25,000 minted.
It's really tiny -15mm 1.6g.
One wonders what use a 1 centime coin could have been, by the 1970s, besides a tourist souvenir...
I've just today learned to crop a round image.

Unbelievable !!!!!!
I won two of my dream coins almost free !
5 para Abdul Mejid, Egypt, rare KM# for $13 ( $60-70 would be " good" price)
and 2,5 Qirsh Abdul Aziz, very rare coin ! for $ 34 ! Hello ! wake me up somebody ! :)
Also I found such an interesting token on our local flea market - it is very interesting data, if someone knows how hard relations are between Armenians and Azerbaijani people. Georgia always was a place where people needed only Peace, and its only place , where Armenians and Azerbaijani people are not fighting against each other. <3
its double interesting because of misspelling on it ( AZRBAIJAN instead of AZERBAIJAN)

You people are buying early Liberty Cap cents, meanwhile over here I can't even find a Flying Eagle cent or 1859 Indian Head at a reasonable price.
for US coins, usacoinbook.com is usually a good source
Thanks, I just checked it out. There do seem to be a few nice deals there, but I'm assuming the shipping prices quoted (2.99 USD) are domestic shipping rates rather than international?
