You know the drill - the last thread for this purpose got too long and died, so here's another one. Do what the title tells you to!

Each of these cost $4, which was all right with me.

Confederate States of America: CSA Watermarked Paper - Single Block (Unattributed)

On April 27, 1862 the Confederate blockade runner Bermuda was captured by the USS Mercedita and taken to Philadelphia. Her cargo, which included a shipment of banknote paper bound for the Confederacy, was ordered sold by the Federal Courts. The Treasury Department purchased most of the CSA watermarked banknote paper and used it for a number of purposes, including Fractional Currency Specimen Notes of the second and third issues. Graded PCGS-66PPQ.

Last evening, a young lady that worked for me brought me about 40 coins and this note .....

Worth 42 cents usd.

I am willing to bet the Jamaicans are using these as rolling papers.

Is that due to most of these notes to be sold abroad? They have the reputation of being rare.

It's a long time I didn't buy or received a banknote as a gift. But a new note is coming soon and I'll have it in our ATMs: the Europa-series €20 note is coming for the end of November.

The US $2 bill is very rare in circulation but can be found in any coin store for a slight markup. Most larger banks will have them on hand but smaller branches and local banks won't. The ladies at the very busy convenience store have been saving them for me for a year or so and I have only gotten 8 or 10 from them. They also saved a very nice 1963 $10 bill for me.

The 5 pound was a gift, but all the others I got for less than 2 euro a piece. Apparently the 10 shilling is worth about 20-30 euros, so I got a good deal on that one! :P

Just picked these up at my local coin shop for essentially free with a bunch of junk silver. 1908 German 100 Mark! Feels like a lot back in the day. And a few early 1940s French notes, not in great condition but beautiful.

Edited to add: My understanding is that the German Mark and US dollar were both on the gold standard at this point at a rate that made 100 Mark roughly equal to $25. That is equivalent to about $675 in 2016 dollars. :8D

My local coin shop has been completely devoid of interesting world coins in the bulk bins for a few months now, but I picked up a couple hundred banknotes today for about 20 cents each! Some newer, some older. Lots of German hyperinflation notes. This photo is just part of the pile on my desk right now! It'll take me a long time to sort out I think!

Cool! If you could post some more pics of that lot I would be very happy :)

So far I have sorted it by geographic group (Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia) and I can take some photos of each batch as I start going through them.

Even though I tried to just pick the best example of each type, for some of them (Bank of China) I am not familiar enough with them to remember if I already picked one, so I know I'll have a fair number of duplicates at the end of this process. Maybe someone would be interested in a banknote swap? I guess it would be done by just exchanging swap lists manually?

Set of 1915 Mexico notes.

I find this while cleaning and fix my grandfather's library last weekend. In a 1950's Bible

Ist's very ruined, but for me it's like I've found a million euros!!!!

Some Philippines Emergency, and Japanese Occupied notes I acquired. Some are in poor condition but they really peaked my interest in collecting banknotes.
A couple days ago I went to local market and got something cool, what seems to be a lieban album containing just under 650 different notgeld notes, specifially 350 of the colorful notes from around 1921, about 150 Austrian notgeld and about 150 notgeld notes of values higher than 2 marks leading into hyperinflation notes even into the trillions. paid $260 Australian dollars (just under 200 usd) which seems to be a really good deal for these sort of things. this one purchase alone has increased my banknote collection from about 750 different types of notes to about 1,400 types of notes

Sounds like you got a good deal :`
Some of the notes in your album don't seem to be notgeld, however, but regular Reichsbanknote issues (e.g. the 5000 RM note visible in your last picture).
Went to a local coin shop yesterday and purchased a few coins and three new countries from my banknote wanted list.

I never know whether to post my banknotes here or on the latest acquisitions thread on Free DIscussion...

But here's a note I got recently that was too late to be added to China on the country per day banknote thread:

1930 China - Republic 50 Customs Gold Units (Central Bank of China)
Featured in cgb.fr's Billets 76 last year.
Got these beautiful French assignats from 1792 a few weeks ago. I think they are AUNC/UNC, they are in really good condition. I love how they are all cut differently and that they all have different signatures (I wonder why though). A local stamp dealer has an uncut sheet of these type of notes, would be a nice decoration for my wall, hehe.

I also went on a train holiday with a friend of mine about a month ago, starting in my hometown Utrecht. My friend and I visited Budapest, Belgrade, Plovdiv, Istanbul, Sofia, Novi Sad and Vienna. Damn, what an adventure was that! Naturally I brought a whole box of small coins and banknotes back ;) The older notes you see on the pictures are from Budapest, if you walk into the old antique/book stores you can easily find pre-WW2 notes for a good price. I'm especially happy with the 100 Pengo note from the temporal government period. Also love the 20 Reichsmark note, it's in AUNC condition and was only 1000 HUF (~3 EUR). By the way, the Serbian 1,000 dinar note is a replacement issue I found in circulation :)

By the way, in my student dorm it's kind of tradition that everyone decorates his or her cupboard in the kitchen to give it a more personal look. Of course I decorated mine with German hyperinflation banknotes from the 1920's! ;) Kind of ironic actually, back in the day the people of Germany did the same thing, because German Papiermark's were cheaper to use than wallpaper!
