Reposition notes from Argentina

My latest acquisition. This shiny new Australian $50.00 note.

I don't usually collect banknotes (I only have 4. 3 Australian and 1 Third Reich) but I have collected this as I am told that this may be the last make-over for the $50.00 note as the Royal Australian Mint is considering dropping both the $50 and the $100 notes. Apparently it's because people are using plastic more and more these days. Studies have shown that only older Australians tend to use the $50 with very few using the $100 at all, and that many younger Australians will whip out the old plastic card to even pay for purchases of only a few dollars. It is thought that in the near future large denomination banknotes will be unnecessary in a "plastic" world. So the potential "Last of the Aussie 50s" is perhaps worth collecting.

wow, i didn't even know the new 50 had been released! :8D is there a new 20 as well?
if it's not too much to ask, would it be possible for you to get me a unc set of the new aussie notes? 0:)
Lol. There is a whole new range of the Australian bank notes, from the 5, the 10, the 20, and the 50. All have indented brail upon them so the blind can tell what note they have in their hand.

Ran into a Canadian tourist in my small corner of Thailand and got a $20. I was hoping she had a $10 note also but no luck there. Happy with my first Canadian $20 and 16th overall note from Canada.

Was in Prague in February. One of my favourite artists is Alphonse Mucha so wanted to get some of the Czechoslovakian banknotes he designed. Here is what I got.

This one isn't by Mucha but very attractive none the less;

and one from China;

Going back to Prague in September for the Sberatel collectors fair. Can't wait. http://www.sberatel.info/en/fair-collector/
Awesome notes! I should definitely get my hands on a few of those, I only have a few notes from the pre-socialist era of Czechoslovakia. Art Nouveau is my favourite art style so I wonder why haven't gotten any of these yet. Didn't he also design the Polish notes from around 1920?

I don't think he did any Polish banknotes. Can't find anything online. If you find any info on Mucha/Polish banknotes, send it on. Thanks.

yeah, but ubfortunately that's not so common..it can be that just the first year of issue printed and the actual year depends on the signature/security features, or the year is part of the serial number..there are many ways..

Got a nice lot of Bosnian notes for a decent price, they are all different varieties. Picture is from the seller.

Came earlier, a 1870 50 centesimi from Tuscany. Italy had been unified for 9 years at the time but the monetary system remained somewhat divided until laws in 1874 and 1882 introduced national banknotes, and it wasn't until 1893 that a national bank (Banca d'Italia) was established.
I just bought a massive collection of banknotes including a series of very nice Australian ones.

New Zealand - £1 Lefeaux (1934 series 1) only VG but a very hard to find note and beautiful
£5 Series 2 - Fleming (1956 - 61) no security thread - gVF a very desirable note
10/- Series 2 Fleming - as above - Fine, common but still a nice design
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
Member of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand and the Auckland Numismatic Society
The Australian selection is amazing starting with this 1954 set of 3!

The 10/- and £1 are fairly routine, but the £5 is a stunner being in almost EF condition, this note has a book value of several hundred dollars. There are two types of these 1954/65 notes, these are the earlier (Commonwealth Bank) type of 1954.

10/- Matthew Flinders (Explorer) and Old Government House in Canberra (Well new then)

£1 - Her Majesty QE2 and Edmund Barton and John Forrest (Forgot first name) - Fathers of Australian Federation

The £5 shows Sir John Franklin (1793 - 1846?) who was Governor of Van Diemens land 1840 - 1843 and then the leader of the ill fated Northwest Passage Expedition of 1845/48 - he was lost and believed eaten by Polar Bears! - Back Agricultural Cornucopia

Also was a £10, but I don't have it showed Sir Arthur Philip (1st governor in 1788) and Science and Industry Allegory on back.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
Member of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand and the Auckland Numismatic Society
The decimal selection was great too

$1 to $5 of the 1974 /89 series. The $1 and $2 were replaced with coins in 1984 and 1988. The $5 was replaced by a Polymer note in 1990.
Signatures on these notes are all either 1983 ($1) or 1985 (Others)
People Shown - $1 Queen and Aborigine Rock Art

$2 - Sir John MacArthur (Farmer and prominent settler) and Merino Sheep, Ferdinand Mueller (Scientist) and Wheat Strains

$5 - Sir Lachlan Macquarie (Colonial Governor 1809 - 1820) and Caroline Chisholm - Philanthropist
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
Member of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand and the Auckland Numismatic Society
The Australian set went up to $20s

$10 Top one is 1976 and middle one is 1985 - Notes show Francis Greenaway - a Convict who became colonial architect he designed the Hyde Park Barracks (1816), St Pauls Church (1823), Macquarie Lighthouse (1818) and Rum Hospital (1815) some of Sydney's oldest buildings.

Back has Henry Lawson - a very famous Australian poet and storyteller.

The other $10 note is the Bicentennial issue of 1988 and it is believed the first proper polymer note issued in the world - One side shows Aborigines as first Australians and other shows a convict vessel arriving with convicts.

I had two Twenties as well, but seem to have lost the scan, so will show later.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
Member of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand and the Auckland Numismatic Society
Also some German Notgeld

Some of these translated quite funny - mostly community funds for trivial sums of money

The top left one was for a cup of coffee!!!

Even weirder were some were in Heller rather than pfennigs - this suggest the places are closer to Austrian Currency rather than German ones.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
Member of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand and the Auckland Numismatic Society
Some Singaporean including 2 manky early dollars and a decent 1970s $10 note

The bottom series had notes going up to $10000

The Japanese pair included a 1980s or 1990s 1000 Yen and a weird 1940 Manchukuo Military Currency 10 Yen
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
Member of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand and the Auckland Numismatic Society
Finally - A Biafaran Pound and Syrian Pound with a 100 Levvas Bulgarian Communist note

The Syrian Pound from 1939 seems to be cancelled with a blue stripe and the Bulgarian note is very elaborate and shows a rather sanitised version of communism there.

3 more Bulgarian notes of the same series, again showing happy communist zeks and Dimitiov the dictator who was a friend of Stalin.

The collection had more notes, but most junque not worth scanning and showing like

Japanese Occupation $1 and $10 Malayan dollars UNC
Hong Kong 5c and 10c 1941
Chinese baby notes with Sun Yat sen
Ceylon 10c note 20c note 1940s
Some Vietnamese Quoc van dong notes
25c US Military certificate
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

I LOVE polys.

They threw this in for FREE ... I LOVE FREE ... LOL @ ME ...

I've trying to take it slow with getting additions since I don't have an income. But for a moment I forģot about that and got me som new notes to play with. :P
So here are my newest additions from the last 2 weeks:

Nothing fancy, just began to build on my Yugoslav series which been standkng still for a few years. Here's notes from 1991, 1993, and 1994.
I finally got 50 Tıyın with eagle wm, so now I just need P-1b to complete the Tıyın series.
The NK notes were most for fun, since I lack the 2,000 and 5,000 won from these two series. Unfortunately he just had them as Specimen.

If you think that's all, think again. :O

Next up:

For some reason I've been a fan of this set for a long time. Unfortunately I lost the 10 dinar because I didn't pay attention and glt out bid the last seconds. The seller didn't have the 50.

And lastly:

A total of 28 notes for less than FV. I just had to. :P

I have still some on the way! :°:O

Sorry I don't really know the difference, I see German language and gothic lettering and think German.

On a more positive note I have these 2 old $20 notes from Australia, forgot to scan them when I did the others

One is 1979 and the other 1985, top one is EF and the other is just Fine.

Still $20s, usually you see $1s and $2s only, as they were replaced by coins.

I posted these on CCF and got heaps of praise, all I have got here is corrections by so called experts angry at my lack of encyclopaedic knowledge of Austrian notgeld and Japanese war notes.;(

Got some more today :)

Filled a hole in Haiti, so now I have 1-100 (dated 1989-2003). So now I just need 250 and 500 for full set.
South Sudan was needed since I need the new 20 and 500 denomination to add to my 2011 set.
Guyana filled a hole, so now I have 1-1,000. Only 5,000 left.
Somaliland filled a hole, so now I full set!
Albania filled a whole, so now I just need 25 and 100 for full set.
Suriname was a cheap mini set ×3, and I can replace my 100 in F condition.
Jamaica was a gift, but filled a whole, so now I just need 1,000.
I also got Jamaica 500 Jubilee, but it was all gooey due to glue or candy or something, so I didn't include that one. :(

I have always collected Marie Curie...and I have wanted the vignette of gol, or earth diving for a long time. Gol is the inspiration for bungee jumping. I was especially surprised at how much more I had to pay than Catalog for the Polish note. But the note from Vanuatu was almost exactly catalog.

Got back from a weekend coin market with a lot of banknote goodies:

Most of them (all the ones not in sleeves), I fished out of a 1€/each bin, including all the crumpled French colonial notes! I will be swapping a couple of them too.

Other than that, here are my favourites:

Two polyglot RSFSR notes from 1919, featuring "Workers of the World, Unite!" in seven languages: Arabic, Chinese, Russian, English, French, Italian and German.

My favourite of the lot- a 1934 ND 100 Francs from Luxembourg, with an AWESOME reverse vignette.
Wow, nice notes! Did you get them all for 1 euro a piece? Even that Luxembourg note?

Ah yes, those are interesting pieces of history. During the Weimar Hyperinflation time, hard currency was scarce, so these notes were issued in small numbers so that private individuals could put there savings in a 'reliable' currency that was not bound to suffer an extreme inflation in a short time. It was mostly used for trading, like bonds and obligations, but they always kept their value at a fixed rate, as the US Dollar in this case was stable during that time. People didn't brought these to stores to buy bread or some sort, but more likely to the bank if they needed quick cash (German Marks) for an expensive purchase (it was like cashing in obligations for example). I believe there were also similar notes issued in British Pound Sterling but those were extremely expensive and not printed in high numbers due to the Pound's high conversion rate. They are interesting notes nonetheless, I want some of those as well but they are hard to find!

I have not seen those notes yet - nice!!!
Not a banknote per say (in fact it actually says "coin" due to the material).
But I thought I would post my new Goldback here since I haven't seen mention of them yet on Numista. :D Kind of tricky to photograph.
