Απόσπασμα: Lotus07I remember that I've found two Jersey coins when I was in the United Kingdom during the holidays. I found a 2p and a 50p in the city of York, I believe.
Did you go to the Yorvik Viking center?
Is that some sort of medieval tower? I did go on a city tour though York by a double decker bus and we went to the Yorkshire Museum. It's a beautiful city, I really love those medieval city walls and all the old cathedrals!

I went to York for a long weekend - lovely cathedral. Did not go to the Yorvik Centre, but I got this coin among an assorted lot, and on here someone said that is where it came from. They make coins there for visitors - not sure if they still do. Still a nice pretend coin though ...
In my change last night, in place of a USA quarter, I received a 2000 Bahamas 25 cents. The cashier apologized for giving me this foreigner, but I thanked her instead for giving me such a cool coin. She insisted that I'd been shortchanged by 25 cents, but I informed her that the Bahamas dollar is pegged at parity with the US dollar, so this coin counts as an American quarter. Sadly, she didn't have any other foreign coins set aside.

I have been given a 10 Baht Thai coin as change, instead of a 2 euro coin. They are similar in size, both bimetallic, only the value of 10 baht is the 1/10 of a 2 euro.... But not for a coin collector!
Also, some days ago, I was given some change and among them there was an 1 euro coin. OK, here in Greece, except Greek euros, German, Italian and French are quite common but what about this?

It's something you don't normally find in circulation, but in sets!
Great finds! My brother found a modern French 10 Francs piece (1991 I believe) in his change, instead of a 1 euro coin, but your San Marinese coin is really awesome! People occasionally don't find those coins often in ciculation, but which date has your coin?

Hello,
I think it is a token from Sigg company! I am interested in trading this with you! The Sigg company manufactured bottles and other things in Frauenfeld...established in 1908. I have a number of rappen tokens that they made.

Thank you for your answer!
Since i don't collect tokens and don't know anything about them, and you being the first person to have a clue about this token i guess you've earned it As you can see in the photo, it's not in a very good condition
( aluminum .. ) so it's up to you. if you want it, i'll trade it. i'm interested in coins from african countries

Απόσπασμα: CeruleanI was at the supermarket just one hour ago. As usual, I checked the reject tray of the CoinMaster sorting machine. Nothing there, but I did spot a coin on the floor... brass, too small to be a dollar coin... clearly not American. It turned out to be a 10 agorot coin from Israel dated 5772. That makes it my first foreign coin from 2012, my first current-year foreign coin find in three years, and my first wild Israeli coin. Three personal records broken at once!
I checked the reject tray of a coin machine, and found this: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces367.html
I thought that it might be silver.
I checked it's numista page when I got home.
WOOHOO!!!
I had the sandwich lady in work today save me a £2 coin as she thought it looked unusual. It was an Isle of Man one, which I didn't have in my collection....I do now :o)
My "dealer" (coin dealer that is) is the cleaning lady She collects every commemorative 5$ she gets for me, as there isn't much in currency here other than that. Finding Silver currency is possible but quite rare, your only chances are the 10$ ones as they look very similar to the non-silver ones, but 20 and up are impossible to find as there are no other similar non-silver circulating coins anymore, but I had found a few in past.
And the only foreign currency you could find is US one, and quite rare, because people don't exchange it because exchange stores pay 12.5 x Dollar (only for 50 or 100 dollar bills). 11 x Dollar (10 and 20s), 10 x Dollar (1, 2 and 5s) and some miserable 8 Pesos per dollar in coins. A scam, basically because they can't smuggle 50,000 dollar wortth of coins to the US as easy as big notes.

Dropping quarters into the bus stop vending machine, pressing "coin return", seeing what came out... (disclaimer: not all machines return your coins and I recommend testing them with the least valuable coin you have before doing any serious searching)
Commemorative coins, American coins, but most significantly...
That's a new one! God bless America *fires gun into air*

Hey nalaberong i got this for free from one of the guys at work.He got it in change at kiki mart when he paid for his coffee. Last week i think They all know i collect coins
And back in feb i took A canadain penny 1947 with leaf from a penny tray at gas station.
God its good to have time off. I not working sat. 2 days off in a role. a week end.
One Sunday morning, there was a fellow using the CoinStar machine at the supermarket. He was pulling handfuls of coins out of the reject tray and frowning at them for not being counted.
I decided to ask politely. "Need some help? It looks like you have coins the machine doesn't like."
He replied, "Yeah, it's mostly international stuff, though."
I said, "That's okay. I'm a foreign coin collector, and I'll pay you fair value for what you have." I spied a number of bimetallic coins he had laid out on the machine's shelf.
"Sure, go for it," he approved. "I'll take your word for it."
I took a quick estimate of what he had, and slipped him $10 for the whole pile. He looked pleased with my offer, and we both went our respective ways.
This is my first millennial Canadian quarter found in the USA since 2004, my first New Zealand coin found since 2007, my first silver USA quarter since 2007, and only my fifth silver quarter so far this century. This also doubles the tally of Mexican coins I've found since 2006.
There is a coin machine in our local Asda store which I'd never given a thought to before. About a week or so ago I went there with my youngest daughter (age 7) and she was standing by the machine while I got a trolley from the bay. She came over to me and had about 5 or 6 coins in here hand which she said she'd found on and around the machine. I checked them and there were a few US 1 cents, a New Zealand 10 cents and a couple of 10 Euro cents (nothing too fancy). Anyway I checked them against my collection when I got home and didn't have any of them already, so I swapped her for some of my duplicate coins and she was over the moon with her coins. I've since given her all my duplicate swaps (where I had more than one swap), so she has about 30+ coins now, plus a couple of US dollar notes her Uncle passed her after his recent trip to the US. I'll get her checking the machine regularly now whenever we visit Asda :o)
Also given her a good start should she decide to coin collect herself.
A friend gave me this, he was not sure if it was a coin. I got him a cup of coffee for it and everyone was happy. Tunisia
How it got here is, I do not know.
yours daryl

Today, the sandwich lady in work saved me an Isle of Man 20p:
I love it when the local grocery shop(Pakistani hereabouts) think they are clever and offload channel island type coins in your change. Instead of saying "What the hell is this!", you just say, "Thank you very much!"..and I've come out with some Gibraltese coins.

Απόσπασμα: CeruleanThis time I checked UNDER the sorting machine at the supermarket, and I found a 2003 South African 2 rand.
Damn, you're a lucky man with all those CoinStar machines in your country!
Compared to James Watson, I'm an amateur. He's a British blogger who raised CoinStar stake-outs to an art for. If can't find a link to his blog (which might be dead), but here's his Flickr account of his finds: https://www.flickr.com/photos/coinstar/sets/72157600363550115/

About a week ago from the flour by the coinstar at walmart. A very nice Japan 5 sen 1921. First really nice coin i found by or at a coinstar. found some Mexico and euro and afew silver But this was very nice
And in Oct from work soda machine this came out in XF to unc.
Iam hooked on looking at and around coinstars now
oh my niece came over and gave me a UK 5 p 2014 in XF.She found on the way home from school.Odd that we have snow on the ground. And she found it. Here in the US. Gave her a gold dollar and she was very happy.
Although it is pretty common to find US coins here in Mexico it isn't as common finding older ones. Last night I got 10 cents and two of them where Wheat Penny dates I was missing. Found them at an ashtray in an old store, the owner gave them to me without charge Not too valuable, but for me new dates are always valuable.

We've had a "swear" box in work over the last few months where anyone mentioning the words "Christmas" or "Festive" had to pay in 50p. We emptied it to add it up for the charity today and I came across the following coin in there:
I recently got a new job and our town's local bookstore and every now and then I find random world coins on my boss's desk. I first found a 1970's Swiss 1/2 Franc and this time I got a 1993D Swedish 10 Kronor! Very happy with both my finds, because I didn't had them in my collection yet. We have a seperate little box in our cashregisters for the 1 and 2 eurocents (which we almost never give back as change, we normally round all prices up to the nearest euro or 5 cents) and in that same box are old fashioned coins (1 and 5 cents) from the time we used to have the Gulden as our national currency! I'd love to sort them out once, but I think I first need to win some more confidence from my boss.

No-one seems to remember putting this one in, so I swapped it for a regular 50p and it is now part of my collection
Wow, that's spooky Phil, literally the day you posted this I had picked up a 1983BB Proof 50p from the Isle of Man which had made its way into circulation and been given as payment at a convenience store.

Getting a cup of coffee on the way to work last night. A canada 1943 and 2002 penny. There are more canadain pennys in circulation here then in canada.
A nice 2002 Km#445 golden jubilee copper plated zinc
got them both free from the penny holder by cash, they are happy to get them out of store.
Απόσπασμα: Mark240590Here in the uk it's mainly euros I find in my change along with polish, I do get the occasional tropical coins but that's fairly rare, we do. However get alot of guernsey, jersey, isle of man and gibraltar coins. I even have a st.helena and ascension coin that I got in my change !
What year and denomination was your St Helena & Ascension coin ?
Finally after all the years of reading Cerulean's posts about coin star finds I have one to show. I already have one of these EAU coins so this will go into my bulk coin pile and the penny, sorry Phil, this cent will go into my penny pile.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!
Received this nice Gibraltar £1 coin in my change today, unfortunately I already have this year, so this will be going on my swaplist (actually, this is a bit nicer condition than the 1 I have, so will swap them over first).
Some kind of button i think? Definitely not a coin.
Today I found this 10 cents from the Netherlands Antilles in a Dutch supermarket. It's minted in Utrecht and I found it in Bunnik, so technically not a very foreign finds but its not from a Euro country :p

Hi Pepijn, nice to see that you are still dropping by now and then!
Anyway, yesterday we went to buy cheese directly at the farm. No electronic payments there so on this very rare occassion, my friend paid cash.
At home, I checked to see if she had got any interesting Euros in return and then I found that we were passed this one instead of a 2 Euro 😮:
Well, it won't make us bankrupt, and the cheese is worth it and well more. And yes, we do have reading glasses, but we don't always wear them.
Wow that's a cool find! I remember these 10 bath coins are infamous for being seen as a 2 euro coin. It bought by know it would be common knowledge among cashiers but it seems not the case :P
Indeed it's been a while since I've been to Numista! Many changes in life happened and my collection is also much slower nowadays. I'm also quite busy with cleaning up a big part of my remaining collection, if you happen to look for certain coins you can always let me know :)

Perhaps the best I have found in my change was ten years ago I found a Swaziland 1 lilangeni which was the same size and colour as a round UK pound coin
