What year is the Proof 1 Rand you are referring to?
It would be any date from 1965 to 1969, as separate Afrikaans & English inscribed coins were struck for all denominations from 1 Cent right up to 1 Rand.
Απόσπασμα: "pauldup"Hi Aidan
The coin is 1966 english legend in proof. According to Herns Handbook there were none minted but examples do exist I have a 1966 PF66.
It would be helpful if you could include a link to the Numista page in question and images (photos or scans) of both sides of your coin.

Paul,
Please upload photos of your coin in here.
herewith scans of MY COIN
herewith scan from Hern's Handbook the asterix denotes Proof Like examples but none have been graded PF most if not all are graded PF. These coins are known as alternative language Proofs and are very similar to the 1965 Afrikaans R1
I pay little concern to Hern's prices. I do however like the book for the other info contained.
Mr Hern is well aware of the existence of these coins as you also find them in 1967, 1968 and 1969. why he insists on putting a Nil mintage I dont know, perhaps it is because her refers to them as "Proof Like examples" The thing is they mostly grade Proof.
Απόσπασμα: "Oklahoman"Does Hern think your coin is proof? It doesnt appear to me as a proof.
I am not discussing the merits of my coin. I simply wanted to point out that a Proof variety or Proof Like variety should be included for 1966 ,67, 68 that is all. There are numerous varieties in the South African 2nd decimal series and not all are represented on Numista.
With all the fake coins and slabs out of China you should probably be prepared to discuss it. Especially when an SA reference is in opposition to you and you dont want to "discuss the merits" of your coin.

He is not in opposition to me. He is well aware of these coins existence. I hear your concern regarding fakes, this is not a Fake check it yourself via NGC. Look up the post and see the image from Herns Handbook, under Proof Mintage he gives a NIL mintage yet allocates a value to The Proof Column. Like I have said about 3 times now, he refers to them as PROOF LIKE EXAMPLES, but they are graded by NGC as PROOF. So who is wrong? it really makes no difference to me if the proof is added to Numista. I really just wanted to bring it to the attention that there could be a Proof category added.
I don't see why a proof, or at least prooflike line cannot be added. I would message the referee to add the line and (finally) add the coin properly to your collection

I would tend to agree with KennyG, since the referee has the opportunity to 'open' the year list to add extra lines. You should also refer to the comments section of Hern's Handbook at the beginning of the '65-'90 Rand series, specifically comment (d):
"Only one language legend proof coins were officially issued by the South African Mint. The opposite language coins do exist in prooflike condition from 1965 to 1969. Often these coins were 'struck' by the families of the Presidents at special ceremonies at the Mint. No official mintage figures exist for these coins but the number is very small and consequently very rare. Huge prices are often asked for these pieces but seldom paid by collectors. We have scheduled these prooflike coins in our lists at prices which we feel are fair."

Thank you kennyG, Thank you radrick007 for your comments. Hopefully this will be addressed one way or the other and I wait in anticipation. I am new to numista but not to numismatics and I really only collect South African Coins so I do know my subject pretty well. Since I have started adding my collection I have submitted 6 coins for addition to the catalog and all have been verified and subsequently added (mostly commemorative non circulating gold bullion coins of the South African Mint) It goes to show Numista is a work in progress and relies on members to keep the catalog growing with new and interesting additions.
