Yuan Shikai Fat Man Dollar 1914

Hello everyone,

My mother (50s) realised that she has an old coin that might be worth something when looking around at a shop. The coin was given to her as a gift by her grandparents. After some quick googling, it seems there are many fakes of the coin and I am not sure if this is geniune and how much its worth.

So far, I've weighed it ~27g (not the best scale). Non-magnetic.

Any idea if its worth anything? Thanks

Looks good to me. Measure the diameter of the coin. I suggest you keep it instead of selling it if you are not in a cash tight position. After all it is your family hairlome.

details are crude, writing is crude but you never know.
You should try some silver tests (try a magnet first, then the ping-test):

Beware that fakes sometimes are silver.
If a coin is rare, scarce or valuable, then chinese make forgeries.
I always am very carefull with these fatman dollars.
Even if it is that old as yours. These forgeries/fakes/replicas are made since the guinine were made.

hmmm value would be about/around 100 USD, would be consider a some what uncommon coin however not super rare. These coins as you have pointed out are heavy faked almost all are just fakes, but since you personally can trace back it original for almost 100yrs is probably real as they didn't make contemporary forgeries or aleast i don't think so. I personal think it looks alright, but due to the fact that is so heavy faked i wouldn't buy one unless i personally inspected the coin, unwise i presume that its fake.
