Non est totum quod splendet ut aurum
Rijkdom bestaat niet uit het hebben van veel bezittingen, maar in het hebben van weinig behoeften
This Solidus with the monogram of Christina on 1655 is matching the comment written on this Numista sheet
(Contemporary counterfeits are very collectable - and contemporary counterfeits with obvious errors (here the date) are probably even more so collectables)
Referee of south atlantic islands
Απόσπασμα: "Frenchlover"

Indeed I agree on the counterfeits. They are not very rare, but indeed collectable

This one seems to fit the obverse/reverse combination. There is no entry for 1655, and considering this one is more like copper, probably a contemporary counterfeit.

Also, why coins for both Carl X and Christina were struck in Livonia at that time? I don't get it.
What is the difference between these two issuers :
Swedish Livonia - Swedish occupation - Thaler (1629-1721)
Swedish Livonia - Swedish occupation of Riga - Thaler (1621-1710)

This part of history is almost unknown to me so please forgive me.

Is a value of 4$ more or less accurate?

Thanks for your answers ! ;)
I also believe its a counterfeit from Suceava. As far as I know there are no 1655 solidus with that obverse. 4$ sounds about right to me, I got one for 5-6$ last year.

Here's some info about the two issuers that I copy/pasted from a coin catalog:

"Riga, the foremost port of Livonia, now the capital of Latvia (Sovjet republic), was formerly subject to the Teutonic Order; independent between 1561 and 1581, thereafter under Polish rule. ln 1621 the city surrendered to Gustavus II Adolphus, and remained a Swedish possession until 1710, when it capitulated to a Russian army. At the treaty of Nystad in 1721, Riga was ceded to Russia - as well as the Swedish provinces along the eastern Baltic coast south of Finland. The right to strike coins, which Riga had possessed since the 13th century, was maintained during the Swedish rule and gold and silver coins were issued. This was done according to the local monetary system; the Swedish standard was never introduced. Coins in gold and silver were minted during the years 1621-1673 and in the first years of the 18th century. Value increases by means of the countermarking of national Swedish coins belong to this latter period."

"The old Livonia, an area between Libau and Narva, was divided between Sweden and Poland in 1629. This Swedish possession was occupied by the Russian army in 1709-10, and finally ceded to Russia in the Peace Treaty of Nystad in 1721. During the years 1644-1665 billionized coins in small denominations (Dreipölchers and Schillings) were struck for Livonia at a separate mint in Riga, founded and controlled by the Swedish government. The coinage of 1669 took place at the mint of the city. The City of Riga, as well as the neighbours, particularly Poland, disapproved strongly of this inflationary undertaking. The coinage was discountinued in 1669 because of the extensive forging of such coins carried out in the castle of Suczawa in Wallachia (see p. 202tt.)."
Thanks erben for your answer!
