France: 1 franc 1938, open and closed "8"

Hi,

have a look at this "half open 8"

My question is, how is an open 8 looking?
Maybe the 8's upper part is supposed to have NO alloy filling it in? So would it just be a die error????
I have ALWAYS thought that mine was with a closed 8, see Mexican example below, but maybe it's the open 8 since NO extra alloy is in upper hole of the 8!!


It has obviously nothing to do with usual definition for open and closed like in this Mexican example:

I think we will have to decide if f.ex. this kind of variants should be shown or not, since it's also die errors???

To be honest, I don't even see the "half open" in the first picture, to me it looks closed everywhere.
And it can't be it has anything to do with extra alloy filling the holes or not, because extra alloy anywhere is always an error, not a variety.
So my question is not how an "open 8" looks like, but how a "half open 8" is supposed to look like. Why is the first picture called a "half open 8"? Can someone point me out the differences with a normal 8?
By the way, the French catalogue by Victor Gadoury (the Gadoury catalogue is for France what the Spink catalogue is for the United Kingdom) doesn't mention a "half open 8" variety for this type.
There are heaps of varieties in the Gadoury, but none for this type, so no "half open 8" but also no "small 3" for 1933 and no "narrow date letters" for the 1934. Where does this information in our catalogue comes from (Krause also doesn't mention any variety for this type)?
Can someone provide clear pictures to show the differences for this varieties?

nice to see, that I'm not the only one having my doubts about that "variant".

I'm afraid that the half open or half closed image is just a clogged die error, and it should NOT be accepted as a variant.
