I just started collecting Peru silver sols minted between 1864-1935. I notice that the 1864 coin is often listed on ebay and other sites as 1864/54. Do any of you all know what that 54 indicates? Thank you.
My background: I collected coins as a kid and am now getting back into it after a 30+ year hiatus. I'm looking to make connections with other collectors and learn more about the hobby.
Thanks!

Thanks to both of you for your replies. That pic is from an eBay listing, so maybe the seller isn't saying it's an actual overdate, but is from the year where an overdate has been reported.

Reviving this thread... The Numista catalog lists 8 varieties of the Per 1864 1 sol with KM#196.1 and KM#196.2. A few of those varieties, including the one depicted in this thread, are described as having Arabic date. Can you all shed some light as to what is meant by Arabic date? I just bought the coin and see no Arabic numerals or symbols. Thanks.

Arabic numerals are 0123456789. Roman numerals are IVXLCM for example. I also know that some Peruvian coins do not use numerals..they spell out the date.

I'll have to learn more about the series. But I think that all of them use Arabic 1234567890 for dates, so am puzzled as to why the eBay listings and Numista catalog specifically call out varieties with Arabic dates.

Probably, like I said, because Peru also has, at times, issued coins with the date spelled out. I can assure you that the phrase Arabic numbers refers to 0123456789.

I bought a silver Peruvian dollar In Pisac when I was down there in January. But when my luggage arrived back in the US it was missing along with a few other things.
