First of all, sorry for my poor english, lets see if i can make myself clear.

when I'm on a coins page, I would like to see if there is any post, discussion or thread, etc, about that particular coin, or if it is not the case, the abillity to create a post about that coin.

For example, i just added Chilean 1 peso (KM# 231) to my collection, and i founded that there are some variations accordind to the level of details on the coin; as I see it, I don't think they are different variations, and I would have liked the chance to see if there was any opinions about that matter, without having to search in the entire posts sections.

My suggestion is the following:
Is it possible to put a link on a the page of any particular coin that directs to the posts about that coin?

Thanks.

Good idea, but the best case would be to have variants and comments added in the Comment section.

I agree that important information should be summarized on the coinpage instead of having to read through topics and discussions. If too lengthy, I guess you can always put a link to the post in the comments.

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!
Hard to do such thing:
  • this implies that all discussions about a coin are within one single thread; but, as on any forum, there can be many threads related to the same coin.
  • other way would then be to have a link redirecting to a search on the forum with keywords related to the coin, but this goes back to the exact same as doing the search by yourself through the forum search function.

Then, best way is to input variations details within the "comments" section and keep searching forum thread for discussions.

A technical suggestion: the coin page can display backlinks, i.e. all forum threads that have links to that particular coin.

To FacundoEche or moderator: Do you can modify the subject of this topic to something more understanding? eg.: Add links on a the page of an item that directs to the posts about that item

This is not the idea… I think!

For example… this topic https://es.numista.com/forum/topic131813.html has a link to page N#51

The suggestion is, search, in certain forums, all topics with messages with a link to N#51 in their content and add to the page N#51 links to all topic found.

The search can be done when the page is displayed, or have a temporary record updated from time to time.

Also can be a mix: Search topics with links to N#51 when this page is displayed, but not always, only each 20 visits, or more than one week after the last search, for example.

Yes, you want to put in the coin page, in “see also” links such as:

No, this is not the same. 😃

You say put in the coin page the link of search. For example, if I visit the coin N# 51 (page N#51, link http s://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces51.html), the system (not any user) show in the page a section with a search link:

See also: this coin on the forum

I do not want search, I want the system search and show results. I want the system made this search and show in the coin page the links to the topics found:

This coin on the forum:

As promised in a different Thread:  https://en.numista.com/forum/topic140945.html#p1129413 , this is a mock-up of what I envision for Numista's website in the future.

After you do an item search and select the item in question, it will take you to a page shown below.  This page has either three tabs or buttons on its name:  Attributes, Gallery, and Talk.  It is up to the Referee to enable the Gallery and Talk page.

To see the Gallery Page view this thread: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic44646.html

The talk page utilizes the current Forum style but on a more limited basis.

This mock-up does not go into the itty gritty - this is just a birds-eye view from looking down per se.  So tell me what you think. I look forward to the comments.

Coins dated 1935 or its equivalent including No Dates.
I am currently looking for the following coins, you can view, them on my webpage:
https://coinwishlist.weebly.com/

Here is a thought 😁

If a thread originated from the “Coin Page,” it will also show up in the “Main forum” to receive comments.  However, once it is solved or inactive for a certain period, it will disappear from the “Main Forum” and can only be accessed from the “Coin Page.”

If the original thread originated from the “Main Forum,” it can be adopted/transferred to the “Coin Page.” Once a thread is adopted/transferred, it shall be treated as if the thread had originated from the “Coin Page.”

Hello,

Coin pages now show the forum topics mentioning them (either via a link or via a N# mention).

Forum topics about the Mercury dime shown at N#51

You can also open a forum topic directly from the coin page. The topic will be directly attached to the coin.

Hi Xavier,

Thank you for this addition and for the work of the numista team, I think it's a good feature.

I understand the need to automate the process but it does have its drawbacks. I don't think all threads that mention coins necessarily need to be linked to a forum, especially for discussions with no added value. In the long term, discussions with no real added value run the risk of overloading the page for a certain coin, which is already very full since the addition of example and auctions. Discussions that are very old or contain incorrect information could also be referenced.

I saw a new topic a minute ago where it had been created from a coin page,

yet though the member was German the topic was created on the English pages.

Sorry, but I can't find much use of this feature because the vast majority of threads on the forum are numismatically relatively to absolutely useless. Most will be “How much monies?”, “Show 'n tell” (in a minority of cases there are interesting infos) or rudimentary identification threads and not much discussions about variants, trivia or similar.

Even when only the threads were shown that were made using a link from a catalog page this would only decrease marginally because the fist thread I have seen with a ‘Discussion about coin XYZ’ link on top was of the “How much monies” type.

Perhaps it would have been better to manually add the forums that were worthwhile, to enable them to be better sorted.

Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno

I agree with previous posts. These links to the forum should be verified if they are worth to be displayed or not… Definitely forum topics like "CCIP" (where thousands of coin pages are linked - requests to crop photos) or “new addition to your collection” should be automatically excluded and in all other cases - I guess less than half of the linked topics can be valuable (I looked at some IOM and Gibraltar coins - some are OK, nice to see it, some other are useless).

This verification can be done in two ways, I guess:

- pre-approval: hint for referee → to verify and approve topic that will be displayed on coin page (only approved topics will be displayed)

- post-approval: option for referee → all posts are added automatically as it was done but there is and option for referees/master referees/admins to easily remove the topic where coin page is mentioned but whole topic is with nothing valuable for coin description

This would stand or fall with the willingness of refs to comb through hundreds if not thousands of threads to gauge usefulness or the lack there of and personally I wouldn't want to do that.
The only semi-automatic option would to be through the thumbs up feature which often doesn't get used most of the time and might not even work to select relevant threads.

I could see that we keep the start a “discussion” button, many new “users” seem to use it that wouldn't have linked a catalog entry on their own and IMO this is a positive. Get rid of the selected threads on the catalog page and just use link ‘Threads about this catalog entry’. Though there you will have to filter out the useless stuff on your own.

When I make a CR based on valid information from a forum thread, I give the link to the thread in the SOURCE part of the CR! Maybe I could also include the link in the Comments section?

No, what you usually do is include the link to the coin page in the forum thread. That's perfect and the main benefit of this enhancement.  Makes it very easy to find what was changed and the discussion behind the change.  For example:

and on the coin page:

So no need to add the link to the forum post to the comment section on the coin page. It's automatic!  Also, a good reason to make the forum post's title as descriptive as possible.

Nice new feature :)

Hello,

Coin pages now show the forum topics mentioning them (either via a link or via a N# mention).

This doesn't seem to work when the page is linked by the Link URL function:

One example: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic147581.html where the coin page is linked to text.  Can this be changed?  @Xavier @dzmitry.huletski

This feature is already useful to me, for example, as a way to find other photos of the same coin.
