I got a Mexican gold coin from my son, a 1959 Veinte Pesos (probably a restrike). Is there a way to tell a restrike of this coin from the original strike? I don't want to ask my son whether it's original or a restrike. It's quite expensive either way. The only date on it is 1959.
You should add this question to another part of the forum. Add it to the 'coin identification and valuation' section, with photographs of both side with weight and dimensions.
Someone with better knowledge of this type of coin will then answer you.

Those are really nice additions to your collection.
I'll be sure to post some photos of mine later on.
I was fortunate enough to receive the following Silver Rand for Christmas this year, along with a few other coins from South Africa and a couple of lots from eBay:

I think it is fitting that the coin commemorates the formation of the South African Mint at Pretoria since both sides are a beautiful example of the engraver's art, particular the central recess on the reverse which almost looks holographic in the hand (the flat scan loses some of the piece's beauty, unfortunately)
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

My wife bought me a new camera lens this year which was £330 so I can't grumble. No new coins for Xmas or anytime in the near future for me :(
I know I'm late but I was slow getting photos. My big prize isn't a coin, but I'm still going to show it off:

It's fitted for 2x2s. Made of solid walnut, with a walnut veneer on the top, and maple joiners. Except for the latch and hinges it is completely metal-free. No other nails or screws. Hand made from scratch by my awesome sister. I don't know yet how many it holds, but I do know they fit nicely. I'm letting it off-gas for a few months before I start filling it.
An awesome gift from a loved one, of which you will be eternally grateful.
It will look even better when you start to fill it.
Keep us all informed of what you put into the box and final total.
