Until now, most of my collection has been built by cherry-picking older coins out of the bargain bins at my local coin shop. It seems I have pretty much fished them clean, and will have to wait for a few more proverbial widows to sell their husbands' old coin collections on the cheap. So, the other day I went to a coin shop I had not been to before, and was delighted to see that unlike my usual one, they have an extensive inventory of world coins in 2x2 flips. Of course, that means I have to pay near catalog value instead of finding the occasional jackpot coin for under a dollar, but it also means I can buy silver world coins.
So, having acquired almost all of the non-silver 20th century British predecimal types through swaps and bulk bins, I took the opportunity to page through the new shop's albums and pick out some of the silver predecimal coins I didn't have. Nothing too extravagant, but I think I found some really nice coins at a good price (the owner gave me about a 20% discount off the prices on the flips).

Talking of medals, I was inspired to get one as well, and just won this ...
'Battle of Lissa & Surrender of Breslau 1757, 47mm Bronze Medal'
Obverse: FREDERIC · DG · BORVS · REX · ET · PROTESTANTIM · DEFENSOR [· LISSA · DEC · 5 ·]
Reverse: QUO · NIHIL · MAJUS · MELIUSVE [ROSBACH · NOV · 5 1757]
Additionally, just won 19 French Jetons ...
That is a picture of each item (I won them individually from same seller) and
I put the seller's images in a folder, and did a screenshot of the folder; rather
than 19 individual images in this topic. Will have to look on here when they
arrive to see how many already have a page created.
Thanks - it is my first one, and is over 250 years old and I like the wear
and crudeness of it and the nice designs too. I only have French
medals from 100 years ago in my collection, until now.
The coin is worn but I've found a Half Grosz from medieval Poland (1507, Sigismund I)

Very nice! I love DNW for their website and picture quality (and customer support, though not the buyers premium). Did you see the countermarked mexican 8 reales today? Way worse condition than yours and sold for north of £500 if I recall correctly. I remember looking and the lot and thinking 'pfft, marks is way nicer than that'

I picked up these two half crowns:
I did, they sold for a lot more than I initially expected, especially the one with the additional countermark which I admit I threw a cheeky bid in on. Those halfcrowns are nice but I totally skipped over the british coins looking only at bank tokens and colonial stuff because let's face it. For me the good stuff rarely gets into eBay you normally have to go to auctions. Look at what I've picked up recently.. I prefer the English auction houses though as their inventory seems to be more "raw" coins as opposed to American ones which are full of graded coins which in return seems to over inflate the price.

very nice. As I've recently said on another forum. If it wasn't for the British empire being so expensive and at times just so vast I would certainly have a Portuguese colonial collection. I've been to Portugal x2 to the mainland and Madeira once. I plan to visit the Azores in the near future too..

I have been lucky lately. I picked-up this Rupia and a 1881 1/2 Rupia, each for under $25
Just wanted to note that I just reached 150 countries in my Numista collection while entering assorted purchases from my June 2nd coin fair visit. Lots of nice African coins there (but the 150th country specifically was Aruba).
I expect to be above 160 countries when i finish entering that bunch (a few dozen coins still to be entered).
EDIT: finished, and it's 161, about what I expected. Was 138 before entering all of that - this was a well spent huge bunch of money.

Hm, we'll see. Depends on what scarce proofs are there and what condition they are in.
Lot description below, so 77 silver coins, 208 base metal ones, 285 overall.
"SOUTH AFRICA, George VI to Republic, Crowns (10), 1947-8, 1950-1-2-3, 1955, 1957, 1960, 50 Cents (3), 1961, 1963-4 (KM. 31, 40.1, 40.2, 41, 52, 55, 62); other South African coins in silver (63), base metal (208), 1937-2000, some Proofs; together with a Southern Rhodesia Crown, 1953 [285]. I got a load of upgrade coins yesterday. Including a nice UNC American struck Fijian shilling. I'm very pleased with it, I'll upload pics of the others later :)

So all my auction wins have arrived now.
The bank of Ireland is on the right and is 1mm larger than the BOE but weigh in the same, I assume they must have been minted in different colonies initially.
Update: I did not win 14 items unfortunately, but won these 5 though ...
'France, Lyon International Exposition 1872, 24mm Bronze Gilt Medal'
'France, Louis Philippe Memorial 1850, 25mm Bronze Medal by Borrel'
'18th Century Farthing Token Die Sink & Coin Press. Coin & Medalists'
'19th Century London Farthing Token. Orchard Chocolate & Cocoa Dealer'
'Holborn Restaurant 1874, 69mm Bronzed Lead Medal'
Two tokens, and three medals to add to the first one I got the other day.
EDIT: Next day, looking up more information about last item ...
The Holborn Restaurant. Location: 129 Kingsway, Holborn. On the corner of London's High Holborn and Kingsway.
Opened in 1874, the Holborn Restaurant was regarded as one of London’s grandest and billed as adding "a spice of poetry to the dull prose of everyday life". It was there that the British Chess Federation was founded in 1904. During the 1908 London Olympics, its vast dining room hosted banquets for the participating athletes.
One of the famous lost restaurants of Old London. Alas today it's a humdrum Sainsbury's and glass fronted office block, but 100 years ago this was one splendid restaurant. The Holborn was once a place to go. It was a huge building. A brochure stated that the King's Hall could accommodate 500 diners and be cleared for dancing in 20 minutes. The Venetian Hall was a vast dining room, with tables joined in a circuit around the room, and was described as 'the home of Golf, Hockey and Tennis Clubs holding Annual Reunions'. There were also a number of smaller private dining rooms, and the restaurant was also very popular with the local freemasons. It was demolished in 1955.
Presentation Medal, struck 1895 in bronzed lead. Obverse: group of people under columned portico. Reverse: group of people, some dancing, in a vaulted salon with scroll below. 193 grams, 69 mm (2 3/4").
EDIT: Now two days later - it arrived and is HUGE - both in diameter and thickness.
I put it against a UK 2 Pence top right ...
June has been a bit slower in comparison to May, but I have recently picked up these beauties. I don't know actually - there are none in my local area and I haven't been to one for many years, buying online instead. Copenhagen is the other end of the country anyway, so I'm not familiar with anyone there :-)
I could resist no longer - I had to buy the coin sets I was watching for the last
few days; especially as two of them today said 'Only 1 left!' so I had to get
them before anyone else did and they were gone. I do like coins with animals
on, and some of these are rather nice. I did go a bit mad as from the same
seller I got 12 different sets - will show 4 each day ...

'North Pole Animal Coins Set of 8 Pieces 2012 UNC, Norwegian'
'North Pole Animal Coins Set of 8 Pieces 2012 UNC, Russian'
'Amazonia Animal Coins Set of 8 Pieces 2012 UNC'
I think they, and the others I bought, are fantasy issues, but I still like them.
Of course these 4 sets are fantasy How much did you pay for each?

I had a really weird feeling I was bidding against someone here on that one, makes sense it was you Mark. When I really want a coin I will put a silly high bid to ensure I get it. Backfires sometimes just like the 1844 Crown, I think I overpaid on that one as well.

Not new, but I bought this coin over a year ago and it was cleaned and thus no use for my collection... I've just checked it, very happy with it now. A couple of undesirable marks but ultimately it's actually a pretty high grade :)

you paid 13 pounds for this lot? Good work! How do you guys find this stuff on ebay?
I think I didn't search for that item; the eBay page offered suggestions on items I might like, based on what I bought previously or was looking at on the day I saw the listing. It was a good purchase with the range of dates plus the silver. So the item had not been picked through by the seller.
For example I looked now on eBay and there is this below the page of my Summary ...
with currently 9 different suggestions - that above is page 8 of 9 so I can look at others also.
Then after I bought an item I look to see what else the seller has (to reduce postage cost), and occasionally there are bulk coins too.

Yes - thank you - I had forgotten about it slightly. I always wondered if the I letter was either a Roman 1 number or maybe a J letter. Will look closer at the links at weekend - thanks again!
EDIT: Now added > https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces89552.html
Also, only won two more items recently (dated 100 years apart) ...
'Colchester Conder Copper Token "Success to the Bay Trade" 1794'
'France Jeton. 1894 Caisse d'Epargne et de Prevoyance de Paris. Fondee en 1818'
Continuing my upgrade programme and the fact that recently I've been buying West Indian coins I decided to get this. I know it's not my thing normally to have a slabbed coin but sometimes you have to. Especially for coins from over this side of the world American collectors seem to love them !
Move also added a Tobago black dogg to go with my current counterfeit on the Crowned C Stampee.
I got 8 more Jetons and an Italian coin also. The second item down in my above reply
on the 23rd shows the 1894 that I got first. Then looking at what else the seller had I
chose 6 more. After winning those as well the seller said there was free postage
(Albania to UK) if 9 items were bought, so the last two shown below I chose as well.
'France Jeton. Henricus IIII 1596'
'France Jeton. Dat Cvra Qvietem'
'France Jeton. Louis XIIII Magnus. Non Exhavsere Trivmphi'
'France Jeton. Louis XIII. Formido Rapacis'
'France Jeton. Louis XIIII. Felicitas Pvblica'
'Italian States. Gorizia. Austrian Administration. 1/2 Soldo 1791 A'
'France Jeton. Henricvs IIII 1593. Omnis Victoria Adno'
I still need to prepare my Phoenician file, however I have the pics.
