I have acquired a Hungarian 20 Filler coin, dated 1967, made probably of cupro-nickel (not aluminium), not magnetic, but it looks like an ordinary circulation coin to me, not a proof issue. Can someone confirm this year/material was only used for proof issues, or were they also minted for general circulation???
well you know these things...
WC catalogs often have it wrong. nevertheless I check it now. and another catalog from Schön & Schön
(a comprehensive german one). Let's see...
ΑπόσπασμαKM# 550a 20 FILLER
Copper-Nickel Obv: Three wheat ears divide date Rev: Lines
divide denomination
Date Mintage F VF XF Unc BU
1966 Proof 5,000 Value: 8.00
1967 Proof 5,000 Value: 8.00
WC says there is no further coin in the circulation issue than 1966. 1967 is Proof only.
Now för Schön & Schön... (written down from the book - it's german you see...)
Απόσπασμα20 Fillér (Al) 1953-1989. Typ wie Nr.41, jedoch neue Staatsbezeichnung:
1. Durchmesser 21.1mm, Rand glatt 1953,1955,1957-1966 0,30 0,50 €
2. Durchmesser 20.4mm, Riffelrand 1967-1989
To translate this one: No.1 is KM#550, No. 2 is KM#573 with the reduced size.
No Proof issue listed however, they missed that one it seems.
What's interesting here is that they also finish KM#550 with 1966, no 1967 issue.

So what's the conclusion? Was a cupro-nickel 20 filler coin dated 1967 issued for general circulation, or just as a 5000 item proof issue?
However, If you search the internet there come interesting results.
Seems like there was maybe a restrike of this coin, so maybe for collectors only.
Not sure - any hungarians here to check this out?

Sorry to be so dense, can I confirm.
The 1967 Filler made of cupro-nickel was produced in a special limited edition of 5000 units. Struck not as a proof coin, but released as an unirculated coin for sets only? The circulation 20 filler being made of the usual aluminium?
Makake77,
As I mentioned, I know 2 type, what are proof. I think, the other isn’t. (1966, 1967 probably struck for collector)
The silver restrike in 2001, but 1946 date on coin.
The copper I didn’t see, I read just “ there are PP version also “

Matt,
You well said. Alpaca coins were for collectors in sets in 1966, 1967. For people aluminium, 5 and 10 million pieces. /otherwise, if I remember well, an ice cream scoop was 50 fillers/
were they Proof (in that Set along with 10 and 20 Filler UNC)?
or were they UNC In Set also?
We were talking about 20 filler! But I guess if they were in a set it would include other denominations also.
It would tie in with my original identification, as I said originally the coin I have does not look "proof", but it certainly is not aluminium either! Could well be part of a special cupro-nickel set.

Matt,
You are right again. 2 fillers – 5 forints were “cabinet series” pieces. But not proof.
There were official release and different companies compiled by the limited-edition.
Nr. 1 photo. Official black gift box made cabinet from 1966 to 1967 minted.
Nr.2 photo. As published by Franklin Mint, but 1966 only. I don’t know, why proof. It seems that isn’t.
very good find. thanks a lot. I will change that in the database tomorrow.
and yes - I agree ... it does not look like Proof, but that might be the reason why Krause does
list them as "Proof" coins - just because this set exists
