Hello everyone,
And now ... the sensational and unique Christmas gift contest. :8D

Each participant will send a coin, with a market value of at least two dollars (in order to make the postage worthwhile) to another participant according to an algorithm that will be revealed on November 26th, 2015.

Registration on this thread is open until November 25th.

When I reveal the participant that will make you a gift, you will send him your address by PM before December 1st and then, If your collection is visible to all the world, your benefactor will choose a coin with a KM # that you don't already get in your collection. If you have not opened your collection to all the world, he will send a coin randomly. And of course you will send one coin to another blessed recipient who has been appointed for you and who have previously sent his address to you.

You must send one single coin. If you would like more coins, feel free to register multiple times.

After receiving your gift, the rave reviews and warmest thanks will be welcome on this thread. Negative comments like "a puck that I threw directly into the shr" will be systematically censored without prejudging on future criminal prosecution.

So please register now and happy Christmas :wiz:

You might need to bump up the deadline a bit....international post is really slow from about now onwards with all the Christmas rush. I would try to get things organized so people can send out by the end of November.
Great idea! Please count me in three times (because I'm ambitious!). But really, make the deadline earlier!
Also we all know how useless the Numista rarity rating system is, so perhaps have a minimum catalogue value, say a minimum catalogue value of US$2.00-$3.00 to make the postage worthwhile.
I'm in. :`

LOL! I see that dptashny is pretty keen to this idea (8

I have a coin that has a rarity index on 46, so I'm in! (Or am I not supposed to reveal that? 0:) )
:P

It sounds like an interesting and not to expensive idea. Why not?!
I would like to participate in this.
Hang on, I object to the placement of any person on the list more than once.

The fun of these exchanges is in the even, equal, and random distribution between members. Signing up three times might score you some extra attention, but it's against the very spirit of the annual random gift exchange, and you know it.
There's no harm in signing up more than once, because you're giving out as many coins as you receive. If everyone gives out a coin of about equal value then there's really no issue with how many times you sign up. Also Frenchlover did say in his original post:

"You must send one single coin. If you would like more coins, feel free to register multiple times."
Should I read the original post before flying off the handle? Nah... too much work.

I stand corrected. My first post will remain unmodified as a badge of shame.
It would be funny if he got selected to send one to himself though, He'd have to act surprised when it turned up in the mail. ;)

Απόσπασμα: "babhijeethreddy"What about people like me, who currently lives in countries like Qatar, where postage of coins is strictly not allowed? :(
No problem :D
For example you want to send a coin to India where about each letter in opened by customs ... :.
You hide your coin in a piece of cardboard covered with aluminium and daubed with any painting, and then the crutial thing is the customproof attachement letter :8D where you can write down seriously all the nonsense that goes through your head ...

Customs will treat your letter in 10 seconds. If it looks serious and good for business, it's freed event though they don't understand a word.

Why I can not see my name in this list?
What a shame- Frenchlover! ;)

thanks to frenchlover, am in too :)
Απόσπασμα: "dptashny"Isn't Eli an American citizen??
Yes, but I am also a Mexican citizen. And also I live in America, the continent, so I can be un-American at times ;). US citizens being called American is the un-American thing, because we all are Americans (from Alaska to Chile). But since calling them United-Statezians is awkward I guess we forgive them/us.

Do you really want to talk about who is really American ? Or people who came here. You know them and us.
It is, what it is, or is it.

I feel I should explain my joke above. There are no real Americans because we all are import's. We all came here.At one time or another. There were no humans here, until they came here. Us, them ,who was first. Who knows if the first ones are even still here.
It is very bad to say them and us. Because we all are them. until we become just us .

Well said Allred, relations would go a lot smoother if we realized, its just us and us. We are all the same on the inside.

re: "What about people like me, who currently lives in countries like Qatar, where postage of coins is strictly not allowed?"

Babhijeethreddy, I suppose you could buy something online and have it sent directly to the other party.
[I know, that is such a boring way to handle it!] Why would a country have a rule like that? It isn't like anyone would want to pay the postal costs for sending out enough coins that it would cause a local hardship.

Does this rule only affect outgoing mail or will sending coins to you need to be done with the same care? I'll have to remember to check the regulations for whatever country I get for my assignment.

Well strictly speaking, it is not allowed sending coins out of India too. But I have done it and so have others. So it would be okay if its packed properly I guess.
Not exactly sure about how strict Qatar is as I haven't done any swaps after moving here and I don't see any active participants of numista from Qatar to discuss the issue. There used to be dellrugby but I don't see him here much now.
Frenchlover has agreed to help me on this issue. Thanks again man..:)
We need to go ahead and get our people and addresses, I cant promise that I will get to the post office right away!

I`m trying to not think about it :) And, I hope, My "Santa" as well, because its very difficult to find something missed in my collection :) ( and it is not completely uploaded yet! ) . Sorry, not hard to find, but Expensive to find :)
Just enjoy your gifts, dear friends ! Wish You all Merry, happy, and laughing Christmas!

Love You all very much !  :)

Yours
D
But, I think I havefound something, which will make happy my addresate ! :wiz:
Quit worrying guys, neither member looks like the type who would be complaining about a gift. I have the good fortune to have been paired with a guy who I've enjoyed many pleasant exchanges in the past as well as some equally pleasant conversations. I will treasure whatever he chooses. A nice grade half sovereign would be very nice of course but a more humble coin would still be appreciated as much (almost!!).

I have a lot of coins which while they are of very little value are beyond a mere price to me because they were given as gifts. These range from two Churchill crowns given to me by my two grandmothers when I was nine, to more recent things such as a coin from the charmingly named Nightingale Island from a fellow by the name of Daryl (remember?) Whenever I look at them it reminds me of a small act of kindness by someone possibly hundreds of miles away who was thinking of me at that moment, and of the person who gave them to me. They are priceless and I will never part with them for any money.

I mailed out a big ole stack of presents to fellow collectors from Numista and elsewhere on Monday. Some are cheap trinkets, some have a quite substantial value but I fully expect that each will be appreciated. I keep an eye open for potential gifts throughout the year, not just for Christmas time but for people who I know will like them or to cheer up those who are sick or distressed. I can't afford to send them to everyone so I try to pick different recipients every year. I don't expect anything in return except for fond memories. I like giving presents, it makes me feel good.

Speaking of which I'd love to see your face when you open yours my dear Daryl. It should arrive soon but it absolutely must NOT be opened until Christmas morning. My wife gift wrapped it though so you can safely open the envelope without spoiling the surprise.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Phil you and your family are very kind. Thank you all. Yes Phil I remember the Nightingale island coin, It put a smile on my face. Every time I think of it. I remember seeing it the first time and thinking of you. But the one I remember with a laugh ,Is the one were you got a zinc coin. And everyone else got silver. And the beginning of little one zoo. Her big girl tea set going to be late. Iam working way to much.Iam working the next two week ends. Witch makes for no weekend. Come home Saturday morning and go back Sunday night.
I have lots of coins that have more meaning than value. I think I said that right. These 10 hour days are getting to much. Very little time for coins.

To you and family have a safe a great holiday season. And everyone here have a safe and great holiday season
yours daryl
