They shouldn't be subsumed, because of the tiny word "ESSAI" below Marianne (?). It's a French thing - it means that these coins were struck as patterns with a special finish and sold to collectors. I support the current policy of giving essais their own pages because they are one-year patterns, not production coins.
What does bother me is that "Non-Selected Trial Strike" is worded in an absolutely pants-on-head stupid way - it should be changed to "Pattern".
And you are correct in that those two essai pages are indeed duplicates and should be merged.
And what is the proper format, "Essai" or "Essai Issue"? Personally I think they should be another year in the main listing unless they are another design.
And yes, "Non-Selected Trial Strike" should be changed to "Pattern" - especially if Eassais fall into this category.
Also, should Essais be considered NCLTs? I don't think so...
