Same as the last one, but for july.
Mine is an Ionian islands 2 lepta 1820:

Price was 4.75 dollars.
You beat me to it, I've got a couple coming in the mail that should be here today or tomorrow.
Received a nice little souvenir token this morning from Table Mountain Cableway:

The Bronze version of this.

I got very lucky with the bidding,  13p, with free postage.

Full details of the token here.

I'm not an expert in any kind of coins, but I reckon I'm good at research and will do my best to help. Feel free to tell me my identifications/valuations/gradings are wrong. It's the only way I'll learn.
Everyone has a worn-out cartwheel penny, but this one is a bit different :)

Also I got a pile of banknotes 8~

A nice XF Alwar 1891 rupee the script is different on the reverse to the other issue and I've been chasing a nice one for a while, this come up for a good price so I snatched it !
EDIT: Better pics :) really happy with it. Just need the crude style Victoria rupee's now to have a full set from the princely states :)
First new coin to arrive this month:

A few more from Romania. The 1867 5 Bani is km#3.1 (5g, medal alignment) and the rest are coin alignment.

For Russia, 10-15-20 kopeks are quite common, as well as the bigger 50 kopeks and 1 Ruble. 25 kopeks is a pretty unusual denomination:

A couple of WWII silver commemoratives - Slovakia under Nazi rule (they fought on the side of Germany for most of WWII):
St. Cyril and St. Methodius

5th Anniversary of Independence (how ironic)

Another commemorative, this one from Uruguay:
Bruno Mauricio de Zabala - 250 years since the establishment of Montevideo

Italy, Victor Emmanuel III:

The 2x2 holders they were in are pretty old and have some scratches on the plastic. The coins are actually in better condition than you would think by looking at on these scans.

Last batch - ok, so I bought a 20-pocket page of 2x2s, which included several coins that I didn't have:

some of them were misidentified, including the Venezuelan Bolivar above (as you might have guessed, as Bolivia) and this nice St. Pierre and Miquelon Frank as France - kind of a nice bonus :)
HoH
Waiting for this to pop through my door via Germany.
Mongolia:

I bought a set of Hutt River coins, which is on the way to me now. After buying I try to find more info on Hutt River and noticed it's not a real country, but the story of Prince Leonard I (on the dutch wikipedia) is really funny!
A small part of Australia (max 100 people) with an own army with 8 tanks in the UK and no soldiers. A police officier ... Living in Sweden.... :-))

Since this is a free discusion, here is something different that I purchased this month.  It is a cuneiform cone from the reign of Gudea around 2144 - 2124 BCE.  It is dedicated to Ningirsu, the patron deity of the Sumerian city-state of Lagash, in southern Iraq.  I have translated and transcribed the text in cuneiform as well as in the standard latin form.  I'll take better pictures later  z)

where did you buy it from?
do you know a trustable antique dealer or do you buy them from ebay?
Απόσπασμα: kolikko99where did you buy it from?

The provenance is good and hence predates both Iraqi wars.  It originally came from an legitimate US auctioneer about 25 years ago and was bought directly from a college professor in the US, so its legit  B)

BTW, this isn't my first cuneiform tablet.  I have two others that needs to be attributed.  One of the two has already been submitted to the Cuneiform Digital Library Initiative (CDLI) for archiving.
I've always been fascinated about antiques and archeology and that's a nice piece of history you got there, I've always been suspicious about tiny ancient egyptian statues sold on ebay for less than a thousand a piece but are real antiques really worth only few hundred dollars?

Some are very affordable, especially those Egyptian statues.  Just like coins, it all depends on availability and demand.  There are plenty of  Ushabti figurines, as tons of them were buried in the tombs, that only cost a few hundred dollars.  The problem is you got to buy them from legitimate dealers as there are too many fakes out there.  I have been meaning to pick one of them myself, but have been holding out for a good quality one.  The Egyptian scarabs are another cheap antique that can be easily picked up as well as others.  Here is another antique I picked up a while back:

Teotihuacan, Mexico: Anonymous (ca. Late Metepec 650-750 CE) Half-Conical Moldmade Figurine (cf Berrin-95)

Figurine depicts an important member of the ruling elite. He is lavishly adorned with a fancy headdress, multiple necklaces and large ear ornaments. Rare red pigment still present in the grooves of the figurine.

Some more...

Indo-Scythian: Azes I (ca. 58-12 BCE) AR Drachm (Hoover-640)

Obv: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΝ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΥ ΑΖΟΥ (The Great King of Kings Azes); Diademed Zeus standing left holding scepter and making benediction gesture
Rev: ?????? ????? ????? ??? (Maharajasa rajarajasa mahatasa Ayasa); Nike standing right holding wreath and filleted palm branch.  Monogram of Taxila to right

Transcription of the Kharosthi legend as most people probably don't have Kharosthi Unicode fonts...

Germany, Third Reich: "Battle of Britain" Porcelain Medal (1940), Meissen Mint (Scheuch-1877a)

Issued to commemorate the Battle of Britain.  According to Scheuch, less than 2,000 of this variety was struck.

Just picked up this beautiful Egyptian 50 piastres... It's a huge coin and I got it for 12.99 half of book value ?

I just got some more NZ trade tokens

Two from Milner and Thompson

And one from Hobday and Jobberns

Here is my splurge for the month:

France 2014 10 Euro Tour Eiffel and Palais de Chailot

France 2015 10 Euro Hôtel des Invalides and Grande Palais

I am a sucker for a great building.
I like this way better than bargain finds, this way everyone can show what they have and if you get a bargain, you can just put it in here too!

All I have for this month is a wheat cent I found in a friends pennies.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins

Yes, and people keep pinching my ideas  ;)

I started this thread back in May because the bargain finds one gets pretty big to sort through after a few months.

Here is another purchase that came in the mail today.  It's a medal from the Antwerp universal expo from 1885.  Unfortunately it's a little worn and has a few dings because it's a beautiful design

Australian Lunar Calendar series II (started in 2008 and will be running thru 2020), MS-BU $1s. Just got this year's coin from APMEX a few days ago. Still missing 2011 (year of the rabbit) - kinda hard to find one for less than $70.

Year of the dragon was issued in multiple color combinations (something like 5 or 6 of them, for different coin shows), but getting them all would be far too expensive, so I had to limit myself to just one.

Much more attractive designs than series I had, I think.
HoH
I've added some new :

And a seller of the market where i go gave me these coins freely, they were in his cash box :

Yes, I have seen that over the years, but I guess you will have to take that as a complement. "Monthly additions to your collections"is now a free for all, I guess you will have to cheat and put it up one day early like this post was done X-D

I've usually got an advantage because NZ is right on the international date line...I'll just have to make sure I time it so my coins arrive on time  ;)

I got this gem last night as part of a gun sale! I dont know anything about III cents but l really like it.

Nothing super special here, but it's what I got in the mail yesterday.  Several Ebay auctions that I recently won.  While there aren't any really rare coins in here, there are a few that will up my countries count!  At least one more German 10 Pfennig.  I've only got around 300 coins and probably 15 of them are 10 Pfennigs!

If your just getting your start you might do better buying a bulk lot, even members here have extra bulk.

I have plenty of extra bulk, unfortunately it's not coins though

I've bought a couple of bulk lots.  In fact, that's kind of how I got my start.  I had picked up a couple of individual coins here and there over the years, but my wife got me a bulk lot for Father's Day.  That got me hooked, and I picked up a couple of more bulk lots.  The only bad thing about the bulk lots I've had so far is that I get a ton of repeats.  Now I try to focus on countries I don't have, or bulk lots that are pretty cheap (just because they are tons of fun to look through).
