I'll start. Throughout my life I must have spent about 300-350 dollars, and about 10-15 dollars a month. How about you guys?

Hi,
Be honest, I spend absolutely.... 0 dollar.

You can find a lot of cool from you change!  I think you don't have to buy all the coins.  All of my coin is come from other people give change.  I hope this reply is hopeful for you. :)

I think the spending depends on where you live. As I think countries with lots of circulating or good mint house online stores tend to spend less as those in countries with bad distribution or few coins for circulation.

Currently I am saving up for other things, so my spending is at its lowest, with 50-100$ average. And I  intend to keep it low as there isn't much I'd like buying.

I find it interesting that some of our lowest mintage comms (6000-10000 pieces) are not as valuable as other countries coins with similar mintages. This is good for a personal collection, but bad for swap terms. I guess our coins take time to price up while those others in fact depreciate over time.

A few thousand euros, not sure about the exact number because I collect coins for fun
I  have spent  '0' on coins,  about  150  on postage and  1000-1500 on bankknotes
That's a tricky one, I've been collecting about 4 years and my collection is worth around $10,000, but I've hardly ever paid full value for coins.  A lot of time I've bought bulk lots, picked out coins I wanted, then either made my money back or even made a profit by selling the remaining coins.  My best haul I picked up for $145, got $600 worth of coins to keep and then made my money back and a $400 profit on top of it.  I'd say in those 4 years I may have spent about $1000 or so in total out of my own pocket...around $250 per year.
That is a rather good question I would say about $500
That's impressive Neil! Let's say I usually spend somewhere between my phone and electricity bill. It's a hobby for me, not an investment. Investing is my job, as I work in finance. My biggest expense by far is my family with 3 young kids.
My coin collection has slept for about 40 years.
From the beginning I remember to buy this coin "Markgraf von Baden"
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces10075.html
for about 600 Deutsche Mark (now ca. 300 EUR) form a working college.

At the end of "Deutsche Mark" I thought it will be a good idea to get the missing coins around the "Markgraf" as they are "Germanisches Museum", "Schiller", "Eichendorff" and "Fichte" for around 2000 Deutsche Mark (now ca. 1000 EUR).
After that my colletion slept further on up to the beginning of 2015.
With Numista I try to swap but I am strong focused, so I can hardly find swappartners.
Ebay helps me out, offering interesting coins for me. On ebay I spend less than 100 EUR for coins up to now.
But I will go on to find swappartners here to give my doubles and coins I am not focused on away.

When I started... Nothing, just gifts or circulation coinage.

But the euro arrived... and costs too. And after more time, I started to spend money for other coins. I would say I've spent more than €1,000 till now.

I have actually spent about $20 overall in all my three years of collecting. Most of my coins have been given to me, or bought slowly.
To much :).

Id rather not say z)  but a lot was also for investment that I plan to sell of soon, recently I focussed on my collecting themes a lot more. That means its getting harder for me to find the coins I want but when I see them they are usually not cheap :D
Since getting a new girlfriend I also reduced my expenditures of time and money on coins.

To each their own on how much they want to spend on it. Coin collecting is great but it shouldn't ruin you, many things are more important in Life:

Depends who's asking. If it's my wife, not much at all.

To be honest it's far less than the money I've spent on my beautiful gun collection.  A bargain coin is a great find but a bargain gun is likely to blow off the side of your face.

Some of the expensive ones are likely to blow off half your face if you try to use them too, especially the black powder guns.  The amount of people killed by those because they didn't get the proportions of powder right, or the powder wasn't made correctly, or the wadding was in incorrectly...
Probably enough that I could have bought a decent used car instead, but not enough to pay for the gas it would have used in all these years. :)
