Canadian 2002 50¢

9 αναρτήσεις
I have a Canadian 50¢ coin. It looks just like km 444a with 1952-2002  P  on front.  Mine is not silver as it weights 6.9 G.  I can not find this coin anywhere. Not even in Krause catalog.
I would appreciate any help on this coin.

It is this coin.
no...  the dates are on the front like the km# 444a

weight only 6.9 G
I don't know the km number will check later, but they were issued not in silver for specimen sets only.
This coin would be KM #509

As this coin is double dated it might get a different KM number but I can not find it in the catalog

Numista states was not issued in 2002.  In fact if you read Charlton it states that in 2002

" With the exception of the Coronation Commemorative issue of 1952 - 2002, no fifty cent coins were issued for circulation in the years 2002 - 2005.  These dates will only be found in collector sets issued by the Royal Canadian Mint. "

Charlton gives no mintage numbers just that it was not issued individually.

Your coin must have come from a special mint set
I know that in some years they have issued a credit card sized card with a blister pack and 1 50 cent coin on it

The regular diademed portrait (or third portrait) of the Queen can be found in certain sets like some of the uncirculated sets and the Oh Canada set.  These coins would have the P mint mark on them. (Some uncirculated sets had the coronation commemorative instead not all).

The coin issued for the Specimen set may have had a different finish I do not have one to look at.

The coin pictured at the link below is not the coin described
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces445.html

The coin clearly has a P mint mark and can not be silver
the mint mark denoted the coin was minted on a Steel planchet.

Somebody if they read this far should really fix that
If you look at pictures of the double dollar sets these coins are sterling silver they have no P mint mark on them
^I believe you are completely correct.

This coin: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces445.html should bear the same design as this: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces446.html

Krause does not have Ken's coin in their catalogue. I was thinking that I should add Ken's coin to KM#509 (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces444.html) and write in the comments section noting the commemorative date. The Charlton Catalogue classifies Ken's coin with the other coins of KM#509. Obviously, a drawback of combining the coins is that there will be no picture of the coin with the double date, but other than that date, everything else is the same...

Please let me know what y'all think is the best way to fix this problem.

I think because it has a commemorative date it should be separated and added as its own coin. Much like how the remaining coins in that series are separated.
I emailed Krause about this and believe it or not, I actually received a response thanking me for my information. Maybe this means that they'll eventually add a KM# for it.

For the time being, I'll make a separate page for it I think.

First time a major company has given a thank-you email!
