Rotated Jefferson Nickel

4 αναρτήσεις
Is it common for American (USA) coins to have rotation errors?

I just got a https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces44.html from a swap 1998P and when placing it on a card holder I noticed Monticello on the Reverse is 30 degrees off. If you place Jefferson straight and then flip the coin, Monticello appears in a perfect diagonal.

Are this errors common?

Very slight ones are (<5 degrees) but large ones aren't. Good find!

Yeah, never seen one before (I wasn't really paying attention), so as you say minimal rotations must have come and gone through my hands, but this one was pretty obvious so I had to look at it before realizing it was really and error and not just my eyes playing tricks on me.

Measured and it is 32.5 degrees. Monticello is gonna fall out of the coin for sure  ;)

One can dream, but only 57.5 more degrees and I would have a Medal alignment Nickel  :O  That would surely get rejected right away before reaching the Mint doors.
