hi, i cannot find this entire set of cyprus coins in the database (i own 3 of them...):

http://coins.about.com/od/worldcoins/ig/World-Coins-Gallery-Index/Cypriot-Money-Coins.htm

i see there are coins of the same value and years but with different front images and i think these images are not the right ones for those years (seem like fronts of older cyprus coins) but i'm not sure... maybe there are two contemporary existing sets, but it seems unlikely...

i guess this question has to be verified...
How about making a forum section specifically for potential database mistakes?
These mistakes should be fixed as early as possible!
well... as nobody replies i will add the cyprus coins i have and the respective years and images and see what happens...
i checked on this website
http://www.allnumis.com/coins-catalog/country/cyprus
and i think there is a mistake in the numista-database...

all recent cyprus coins are listed together (those circulating before euro), when they should be divided into two groups for two different republican periods (1981-1993 and 1994-2007), the front image of the coins is very different in the two periods and they're usually considered as different coins in many databases on the web...

i guess this needs an admin's intervention in order to list the two groups of years under the correct type of coin, after adding the most recent one...

There is a section for all about Numista (potential mistakes, suggestions, etc.)
I transferred this discussion to the appropriate section.

2 cents: https://fr.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1951.html
5 cents: https://fr.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1950.html
10 cents: https://fr.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1949.html
20 cents: https://fr.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1383.html

Did I misunderstand your question?

Numista has different sections only for different currencies, not for different government. Since the currency didn't changed in Cyprus in 1994, there won't be two differents groups for each republican period.
If you look for example at the 5 cents coins from the two links (the one on Numista and the one on coins.about.com...) you'll see there's differences, most notably the type of leaves surrounding the shield. Is this enough to make it a new coin? What are the rules for deciding whether to consider it a new coin or a 'sub-type' or else?
Thanks,
Giovanni
yes but the coin changed in 1994, as you can see the front with the shield and the plant around is very different. obviously the government is not important, but when they changed it, they also changed the front image on their coins!!!! (look carefully at the front images in the two periods...)

in your database under the first type of coin are listed the years of both types... they belong instead to two different coins!!!

merci
Hello,

Sorry, I didn't notice the different shield. So I've made further investigation. There has been 3 different versions:
- In 1983: old-style shield and a single line for the border of the value number
- From 1985 to 1990: old-style shield and a double line for the border of the value number
- From 1991: new-style shield
Note: the 20-cent coin changed reverse design in 1989 and the 50-cent coin didn't exist in this form before 1991.

Since there is no big difference between these three versions, there should be only page for each type.
However, the different versions are now explained on the page.

In general, there is no fixed rule for deciding to consider a different version as a new coin. If the design didn't change but were only lightly modified, there should be only one page.
Most of time, we rely on the Standard Catalog of World Coins to decide whether it is a new type (new KM#) or a sub-type (same KM#, with different decimal).
ok, thanks for your investigation and explanation.

is there an official or equivalent online version of the catalogue you mentioned?
The official website of the WC is Numismaster.com, which offers a restricted version of the catalog.
Another useful resource is Worldcoingallery.com, which lists almost every world coin since 1800 and provides KM# and pictures.
