Yeah good luck on that one. Book value may be just over $20 for the South African 5 shillings but if you can buy them for that then pick up 5 of them for me was well. Sale value for them is well above that.

Yep, ridiculously undervalued. They have a mintage of only 300,000 and yet even in MS60 they only have a value of $35. Can you imagine a US silver dollar with a mintage of 300,000 selling for just $35? From what I can see the sale price on Ebay ranges from $40 to about $120 or so (with some people asking as much as $500)

US Silver Dollars and all other coins of USA sell almost at a fixed price, maybe 4/5 dollars here and there depending on their grade.

Interesting, you must have to hunt to buy them for that. When I searched the cheapest one was $20, most were in the hundreds. Considering until the price drop even the melt value was $17-$18. Now it's about $12
I can ask $10 000 for an ungraded one, doesn't mean there will be anyone stupid enough to buy. Asking prices are not a good gauge of the going trend, in many instances they are wishful thinking and fishing for suckers...
Hmm, I may have to spend some time on E-Bay for a while. I've been picking up so much stuff on Trademe recently that I haven't been on for a while. The 5 shillings is the only value I need from South Africa. Got all the silver from 3d to 2 1/2 shilings, but South African coins sell really expensive over here.
