Does anyone collect coins by size ? I have decided to collect what I call the crown sized set - a set of international silver coins the size of a crown ( 36-40 mm).
Here is what I still need :
1935 Rocking Horse Crown
Old head Crown Victoria  (1890s)
Edward VII Crown ( 1900s)
British Asia Trade Dollar (1898-1928)
American Trade Dollar ( 1870s)
Japanese Meiji One Yen (18??)
Philippines One Peso (1903-1908)
Commonwealth of Australia 1937 Coronation Crown George VI
New Zealand 1949 Royal Visit Fern Crown
Indo china 1 Piastre de Commerce .900 poids (1885-1930s)
Restrike of 1780 Maria Theresa Thaler (as long as it is silver and legally struck)
Hong Kong One Dollar Victoria (1866-1868)
Straits Settlements One Dollar Edward VII or George V (1903-1920s)
ASE (1986-present)
Optional
1847-1852 Gothic Crown Victoria (now that's a toughie)
Young Head Crown 1838-1880s Victoria
Spanish Real Carolvus III 1800s
Spanish Real 1759-ish
Silver Chinese Dragon Dollar 1890s to 1911

I can completely relate to your lust for these big silver coins; my main collection consists of 14 awesome Canadian silver dollars.

Just got this: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces6595.html at a coin show yesterday, but I love the ones like the New Zealand 1949 crown and peace dollar that are too big to fit in the 2x2s

and Britannia: I want almost all the coins you mentioned too!
Numista referee for Canada and Estonia.

Was the piastre expensive?

Crown-sized collections are... somewhat harder as it is VERY expensive, like you mentioned above

Honi soit qui mal y pense.
search "Crown size coins" on google(.com), I cannot access the website as the Chinese government is being an a**hole... but its a BlogSpot.

And, what is your definition of crown sized?

mine is give-or-take 5 mm from 38mm

a standard crown is 38, taler is 41+ (all in mm)

I have most of the British crown sized coins from the Victorian old head to date, including my favorite, the 1933 George V Wreath Crown, and all the BUNC £5 coins from 1993 to 2012. However, since the Royal Mint has now got so money-grabbingly commercialised I have ceased collecting £5 coins and am unlikely to buy anything from the Mint ever again. I still like the look of crown sized coins and would not be averse to adding some other, older ones to my collection, but I think I'll need a few pay rises first!  :O

Umm, I think you got that wrong- I have 1 1909 FI Piastre, not 9 Piastres.

2011 ASE 1 dollar
Got a 1896 Victoria Crown (Old Head, LX).
Gee, where do you get the cash for all these beautiful coins?
Yes, my crown collections are mostly copper nickels but I collect mostly those countries which issue coins with figurative/famous personalities and here’s the kicker: it should have the issuing country’s Coat of Arms on the reverse. My criteria shouldn’t go below 38mm diameter. Boy, I can’t seem to get enough of these...
I love my Crowns, but at this stage, most are of the Base metal variety.

Still heres my Australian 1937 beauty - a gleaming AU example for you all
