Three new Russian coins have been added:

N#581605

N#581561

N#581518

It isn't clear what the difference is between them and the types we already have:

N#26899

N#26900

N#26836

If they are distinct, can the differences please be made clear? Also, if these are the only types for these dates, can the existing owners please be moved to the new entries and the dates in the old entries be removed? @Grinya

Hello,

This isn’t the first thread about new Russian coin entries, so let me explain the context. The updates are being made by @Trooper8 , who is doing excellent work based on the Bitkin catalogue that is the most comprehensive reference available online for collectors of Russian coins and widely regarded here as a standard.

These updates include adding new variants, splitting existing pages, adding rare patterns, correcting errors, and introducing subtypes. The three coins you mentioned are examples of this effort.

To address your specific question: the pages were split based on weight differences. I’ve since added clarifications to the headings of the light types to make the distinctions clearer.

I don’t know for certain whether all these splits are strictly necessary, but I’ve chosen to support the initiative. Master referees are free to correct us if we’re wrong.

A side note: when I agreed to be the referee for the Russian catalogue, I noticed that my interest is mostly in pre-1717 wire coins. Therefore I would very much welcome a co-referee for the post-1700 period and this request is still open. Due to my job change I no longer have as much time for the hobby, including Numista upkeep. So if anyone is interested in becoming a co-referee (or sole referee) for Russian Empire coins, please reach out to me or @Jarcek

Thanks for the clarification. It seems that these three denominations were issued to two different standards, both with the same silver content, a heavy type in .750 silver and a light type in .868 silver. It strikes me we should explain this on the individual pages for clarity. I'd be grateful if @Trooper8 could look at the following proposed comments.

The silver 5 kopeck of Alexander I were issued in two different standards, 1.037 g in 0.868 silver and 1.200 g  in 0.750 silver. Both had the same silver content of 0.900 g.

The 10 kopeck of Alexander I after 1810 were issued in two different standards, 2.073 g in 0.868 silver and 2.400 g  in 0.750 silver. Both had the same silver content of 1.800 g.

The 20 kopeck of Alexander I were issued in two different standards, 4.146 g in 0.868 silver and 4.799 g  in 0.750 silver. Both had the same silver content of 3.599 g.

If you prefer, we could give the weights in доля (dolya):

The silver 5 kopeck of Alexander I were issued in two different standards, 2341125 dolya in 0.868 silver and 27 dolya  in 0.750 silver. Both had the same silver content of 2014 dolya.

The 10 kopeck of Alexander I after 1810 were issued in two different standards, 4682125 dolya in 0.868 silver and 54 dolya  in 0.750 silver. Both had the same silver content of 4012 dolya.

The 20 kopeck of Alexander I were issued in two different standards, 9339125 dolya in 0.868 silver and 108 dolya  in 0.750 silver. Both had the same silver content of 81 dolya.

I don't know why I became the proofreader for russian coin comments. I'm not a referee.

As you have access to the more detailed catalogue, doesn't it make sense for you to look over clarifications to the pages you've created?
