Is entry N#245466 correct ? OR should be an overprint for N#206987 ?

Some months ago when attempting to find this note under Japan I could not locate it. Then while identifying some Chinees notes I found it.  I posted a query and got no response until last week and now I cant find the response. Anyway…. These are my opinions, This is a Japanese note NOT a Chinese note.  It was printed for the Japanese occupation forces in China and is identical to N#206907 but has overprints.  I dont read Japanese or Chinese.  I cant identifiy who to send this message to  so have broadcasted to everyone.

Some coins are easy to identify, others more difficult

It is P#M25 rather than P#M24.

Thanks gyoschak,

for identifying the note, but my original question has not been answererd.

Why are P#M24 and 25 Chinese notes and not Japanese.  I purchased the note as a Japanese note of occupation.  There are quite a few other Japanese notes produced for the occupation of most SE Asian countries that I have, including New Guinea, Malaya, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philipines etc.  They are not catalogued in Numista as notes from those countries but as notes recorded for Japan.  In my original message I stated that I had spent hours looking for the note in Japan and only by chance found it in the China classification.  How many other people have made the same mistake.

My question still stands for someone to answer, Why are they not Japanese notes?

Thanks for your responses.. John

These notes were over-stamped to explicitly not be able to be used in Japan and money is generally and occupation money specifically is cataloged where it is/was intended to circulate.

Thanks Idolenz , but that can not be the answer as all the Japanese notes in occupied SE Asia should no be listed as Japanese? but in the counties of circulation. They are not?

Which notes are not listed in the countries they were issued in? I am not aware of any.

Dear John,

You are right that this 5 yen is indeed a military note issued for the Japanese occupying force in China during the last great war, and as this note was circulating in China only. I have a feeling that this note may not even be legal tender in Japan back then.

As for why this note is listed under the China section, such listings are usually catelogorsied under the country of circulation. You also touched on countries like New Guinea, Malaya, Singapore and Indonesia, these notes are listed under the name of the countries prior to their independence.

For:

New Guinea - listed under Oceania, which meant for today's Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Australia etc.

Malaya - these notes (banana leaves) were circulating in Malaya, Singapore and Brunei

Indonesia - listed under Netherlands East Indies aka Indonesia

Thanks
