N# 28187, N# 40889, N# 28188:

So after close examination of the 2 sets in my collection, I believe these 3 coins should be classified as piedforts. They are MUCH thicker and heavier than typical.  And as a side note, the thickness spec shown for the 5 gourdes N# 28187 (2mm) is incorrect. Actual thickness is closer to 4mm.

Piedforts are usually defined as thicker (x2) as the standard size coin of the same design. Without a standard size coin of the same design how can there be a piedfort?

Good point.  I'll see if I can find an exception to that criteria …….

Canada has a couple of $25 silver coins they call piedfort.  2017 35th. Anniversary of Trivial Pursuit N# 98073 is one . The word is used on the C.o.A.  Couldn't find another coin with the same design.  Not sure if this qualifies as an exception though.  Will keep looking …….

Maybe, but I think the RCM was playing games with that one.  NGC/Numismaster doesn't call it a Piedfort. Guess it depends on the Numista definition, if any.
