Help in identifying Roman coin.

This a very sad and ragged specimen but I can't place it. it is 20mm and 2.99g. The obverse looks like it could be Constantine but he never had a helmet like that, nor a hair style like that. The reverse is a standing female carrying some sort of stick or sceptre, looking left. possibly veiled. That seems more 3rd cent.

Any help would be most welcome.

I’d like to suggest that the reverse may be of Roma seated left, holding Victory on globe and sceptre. The legend on the left side of the reverse could possibly read GLORIA. On the obverse, I see what looks like an X on the lower right side. So I speculate this could be MAX AVG.

So you could look at whether this might be RIC VII Constantinople 17, 23, or 24. Plenty of examples on OCRE for 23, and Numista has a page for that type.

Thank you for your response Wacko. It seems your suggestion is the nearest. Certainly an X in that position would indicate a MAX AVG and if the figure on the reverse is seated, then it must be Gloria Romanorum. Trouble is, the coin is in such a bad state it could be almost anything!

Anyway, thanks for the pointers.
