I love all coins, even small zinc ones with a single digit on them, but when I see questions on favourite coins etc, I often think of the mighty Pine Cone of Medieval Augsburg. All hail the mighty pine cone…

Here the cone is held aloft above the city by 2 angels. The Pine Cone appears on over 90% of their coins from the Free City of Augsburg, it was clearly very very important, and to me represents a time in history which is both reality and almost fantasy, as I cannot comprehend how such a mundane and ordinary object could be held in such high esteem. From all across the German States in medieval times, coins had eagles, bears, crests, giants, mighty rulers, symbolism of keys, ships, stags, gates, etc etc, and I cannot help but imagine every one else laughing, just a little bit, at the mighty Pine Cone of Augsburg.
