Looks Chinese to me, but ruler and mint don’t match

Hi folks,

Would anyone be able to help me identify this coin? Got it in a mixed coin bag.

Looking online I can find the period, but the mint in the back doesn’t match any entries from that period.

thank you folks!

I see the problem. The face of the coin looks like one of emperor Shunzhi (aka Shih-tsu or Shun Chih) who ruled from 1644-1661. However, the mintmark doesn't correspond to mints listed for this emperor.  The weight of your item (0.80 g) may provide a clue. Chinese cash of the Ching dynasty generally weigh between 3.0 and 4.4 grams, so your item is extremely small. This, taken with the possibly mismatched mint, and the fact that it doesn't look 350 years old, suggest that this is a modern imitation rather than an authentic coin.

Thank you Seeker55!

that’s what I figured, but wanted to check with people who know more in case I was missing something.

in the junk drawer it goes haha

thank you!

This looks like a modern imitation to me.

Thank you!

Shunzhi's coins are highly valued for their Feng Shui virtues, as he was the first emperor of the last dynasty. The mint in the Chinese province of Fujian was active at that time, but the Fu character on reverse was chinese:

N#90073

N#90611

And at the end of his reign, coins were produced with both Manchu and Chinese characters on the reverse, but not for Fuzhou.

Too bad !

This strong combination is well worth creating an auspicious token !

N#32587

The Fuzhou mint is highly valued for Feng Shui; there's no need to dwell on the elegant curves of the Manchu character to discern its virtues.

Authentic coins have more aura than copies, but with a billion practitioners in China, Feng Shui is in shortage!

These lucky coins do not seek to imitate genuine coins because in any Chinese a collector is watching and there would be shouting, especially do not try to cheat the collector! Don't deceive him !
