Specifically this in the catalogue
10 Francs - Baudouin I (Dutch text) - Belgium – Numista
I recently purchased 0.5kg of mixed foreign coins - job lot donation sold as a whole by a local charity shop.
I was lucky enough in this lot that there was a 1971 with French text that was a double die and then I came across this one for the Belgium text 1976 which has lets call it “issues”.
What I want to know is this what are the issues called / termed as please is it a cud or a cracked die or both or nothing in particular just something a tad odd? The coin does have a little wear with minor nicks / scratches, rim edge is smooth and shiny no faults running through it and the other side has nothing of note except the odd minor scratch. The majority of the coins I purchased were in really good condition of which a lot I didn't have or in a lot better condition than I had so am swapping out.
This coin seems to have two major "fault lines” running through it one from top to bottom and one from left to right.
My photo's aren't brilliant but have tried to do the best I can to show without the coin reflecting light all the time.
The top fault runs through the letter G and fades slightly then you can see it curve through the crown then through the middle of the lions body (left lion) and run down the the bottom where it widens out through the number 1 in the date this is for want of a better description an “grooved/cracked” line by the time it gets to the bottom of the coin. You can really feel the difference in the levels raised to the right of the number 1 and lower to the left of the number one.
The second is a “raised” line through and across the number 10 the fades through the body of the design and heads out through the letter F for Franc.
Many thanks for any assistance.
