Other referees of Spain: @zegeri  @oynbcn  (Is all correct? For example, currency name in English/French, local names, subdivisions…).

Name of the currency

Numista use always the Spanish name “Libra”, but this currency was used in Catalonia (local name “lliura”), so I think could be used the translation (EN) Pound (FR) Livre

NOTE: The following is incorrect. Continue here https://en.numista.com/forum/topic161575.html#p1265200

Years of the currency

This currency was used during the period 1640-1652 of the Spanish notgeld. Some subunits had variable values, but in the years 1640-1652 their values remained constant:

1 Pacífico = 20 Sous (from 1476)

1 Groat = 24 Dineros (1501-1669)

1 Trentin = 33 Reales (from 1618)

The years with all these constant values are 1618-1669.

Subdivisions

The original subdivisions are:

1 Libra = 10 Reales = 20 Sous = 40 Seisenos = 120 Doblers/Ardites = 240 Dineros = 480 Obols/Senyals = 960 Pugesas • 1 Pacifico = 18 - 20 Sous • 1 Florin ≈ 13 Sous • 1 Groat = 12 - 36 Dineros • 1 Principado = 24 Sous • 1 Trentin = 33 Groats

The years are 1618-1669, so I will use:

1 Pacífico = 20 Sous

1 Groat = 24 Dineros = 1 Real

1 Trentin = 33 Reales

Result:

1 Pound = 1 Pacífico = 10 Groats/Reales = 20 Sous = 40 Seisenos = 120 Doblers/Ardites = 240 Dineros = 480 Obols/Senyals = 960 Pugesas • 1 Florin ≈ 13 Sous • 1 Principado = 24 Sous • 1 Trentin = 33 Groats

Notes:

  • In notgeld there are not coins in Pacifico, Principado, or Florin. Should they removed from subdivisions?
  • I keep the value 1 Florin ≈ 13 Sous, but I do not know if it is correct for the years 1618-1669.

How many issuers will be using this currency please?

Catalogue administrator

The idea is associate to Spanish notgeld https://en.numista.com/catalogue/espagne_guerre-civile-1.html (or “Spain – Local”) and use in different cities, descendents in the country tree. See https://en.numista.com/forum/topic161250.html

The same currency (with more years and denominations) is used by the Principality of Catalonia, child of the Spanish States https://en.numista.com/catalogue/spanish-states-1.html in the country tree.

Spanish notgeld and Spanish States are siblings in the country tree, with parent the section Spain https://en.numista.com/catalogue/spain-1.html so I think they can not shared the same currency.

Wanted & swap list (euro coins & world coins, exonumia and banknotes circulated) https://goo.gl/AQjfKp - I have euro & world CC coins for swap.

I do not want to assign currency for issuers where it is not applicable. So If you let me know which issuers would use that, I would add it there, but not for the whole section.

Catalogue administrator

Oh, it is possible assigned to a city. I did not know. We keep this topic open. I will see the cities.

I have a doubt. The current case is this:

The currency Pound (Libra) is used by different issuers:

Question:

  • Is there a single currency, Pound, associated to different issuers? (with common years and denominations to all issuers) or
  • are there a different currency with the same name, Pound, for each issuer? (with different years and denominations to each issuer)

I would like the first option. 😉

These are the cities in the notgeld section espagne_guerre-civile that need the currency.

But, as I said, the same currency (id = 3059) is now used by the issuer catalonia_principality (in spanish-states).

Can the currency id = 3059 be shared by all these issuers?

Or we need create a “copy” currency in the notgeld issuers?

Wanted & swap list (euro coins & world coins, exonumia and banknotes circulated) https://goo.gl/AQjfKp - I have euro & world CC coins for swap.

I will need to create new currencies for all of them.

Catalogue administrator

Jarcek

I will need to create new currencies for all of them.

One new currency for each? 31 new currencies? 😕

Tell me if this is correct, because in this case, not all of these currencies need the same denominations.

Wanted & swap list (euro coins & world coins, exonumia and banknotes circulated) https://goo.gl/AQjfKp - I have euro & world CC coins for swap.

Yes, we could theoretically assign currency to parent, but it would add it as an option for all other issuers where it is redundant.

Do not worry about denominations, those are not copied when currency is copied. :)

I just created those currencies for you :)

Ok. I saw the currencies created are a copy (name and subdivisions) of the currency 3059 • catalonia_principality

These are the denominations we need for each issuer…

First, I copy here the data of all denominations to create:

@Jarcek, I do not see any denomination in the translation page, neither in the edit object page.

I saw the Changes to the list of denominations page and I regret to say that all them were removed last night by the maintenance program of Numista!!! 😲 😭

Could you give me a list of coins that should be there? I can either add at least one of every of those new denominations, or alternatively, we can agree to both make the work in one specific day.

Catalogue administrator

I do not know the coins a priori. They are many, we must consult a catalogue (to assign the correct issuer and the denomination for each), and many of these denominations have only one coin.

I think the best is move (the referees of Spain) the coins to the correct issuer (the city) and then you can create and assign the new denominations in the issuer.

I will tell to the other referees, because I might not have time ("off line") for the next 7 days.

To go around the auto-erasing feature, you can add the denominations by yourself. When editing the page denomination, select other, and just put English name there. I will then take over and add all the stuff to the denomination itself.

Catalogue administrator

I do not know why I had the preconceived idea that the denominations created by that way did not associated with the currency. Perhaps related with the old system of currency/denomination.

Ok, I will create the denominations myself and then request add the other data.

@Jarcek, was this completely done?

The filters work in the search box, but…

  • I do not see these denominations in the translators area, nor their numerical value in parentheses:
    • 11824 • agramunt_notgeld
      Denier
      5 Reales
    • 11828 • barcelone_notgeld
      ⅔ Ducat
      1 Ducat
      2 Ducats
    • 11844 • olot_notgeld
      Denier
      Seiseno
      5 Sous
      5 Reales
  • I see these denominations in the translators area, but not their numerical value in parentheses:
    • 11850 • tortosa_notgeld
      ½ Real
      1 Real

Should be all good now.

It is not correct . 😅 There is an error in a value:

  • 11828 • barcelone_notgeld
    ⅔ Ducat (2/5) → (4/5)

The last denominations corrected are not ordered by value, but I suppose the system needs some time.

I have a doubt about the format of the numeric value. If I know how it works, I will request the correct value next time. We have this denominations and their values:

Denier (1/240)
Ardite (1/120)
Seiseno (1/40)
½ Real (1/20)
1 Real (0.1) – it use decimal format and the others fractions
5 Sous (1/4)
5 Reales (1/2)
10 Reales (1)
⅔ Ducat (4/5) – pending to fix
1 Ducat (6/5)
2 Ducats (12/5)

If the decimal format is used in this denomination: 1 Real (0.1), why are fractions used in these?:

½ Real (1/20) instead of 0.05

5 Reales (1/2) instead of 0.5

And vice versa… if fractions are used here

½ Real (1/20)
5 Reales (1/2)

why are decimals used in 1 Real (0.1) instead of 1/10?

Fixed the last one.

0.1 instead of 1/10 is just technical display.
This is what is set up:

Ok, it just looks weird. 😂 I thought there would be more options to say how each denomination is displayed.
