Mexico, 1971, 1 Peso - digit missing from the date

Hi all.

I've had a subscriber on my channel ask about a Mexico 1 Peso, dated 1971, where he said “the 1 is missing, leaving the date as 971”. I suggested it may be wear & tear, but he's emailed a photo and the coin has minimal wear, but the 1 is definitely missing, not worn.

Has anyone come across this? I've seen a few of them in world coin hunts, but nothing like this. Also, is it worth anything? (his question, not mine).

Thanks

Caused by a blocked die - the 1 can not be stamped as something is in the die.

Thanks Zac. I had a feeling it was going to a die issue, but I've not come across a number or letter completely missing, just partial or in the wrong place. It's a nice clean die error, so assume it may only be worth a couple of quid, and not enough to retire on 🤣

I'll let him know and send the link you've supplied.

Thanks 👍

Slightly more wear on this coin, but still not enough to remove two digits. Also a die blockage, so there are others out there.

Thanks King. After reading the previous reply, I had a feeling this would be a more common error. I might have to start looking even closer during my coin hunts!! Cheers.
