Hello everyone,
I’m seeking help to identify a small silver coin weighing just 0.45 grams, which bears a strong resemblance to the Russian wire kopeks (15th–17th century), but it stands out due to its Latin script, rather than Cyrillic.
The style and lettering suggest a possible Scandinavian origin, and part of the inscription may refer to Christian IV (King of Denmark and Norway, 1588–1648), although the reading is not entirely clear.
Details:
• Metal: Silver
• Weight: 0.45 g
• Shape: Irregular, typical of hammered coins
• Inscription: Latin letters partially legible, possibly includes “CHRISTIAN[…]”
• No date visible
• No clear mintmark
Could this be a Danish or Norwegian issue from the early 17th century, possibly a local or provisional striking under Christian IV? Could it be a token, medieval penny, or a Scandinavian wire coin?
