I believe that the criteria/guidelines for banknote patterns and trials should be more specific so we can avoid ambiguity on items like this.
I agree. Test items like this one, are not banknotes, and should have their own section in Exonumia.
I just wanted to check where we are with this, because I have bought a bunch of test notes and I will be adding them to the catalogue. Should I just continue as normal, duplicating pages and adding?
Hello,
We have a category “Banknote patterns and trials”. Shouldn't we use it for this kind of note?

I would say that this should only be used for patters, trials and proofs of designs of banknotes which were issued.
Example, test note in blue: N#342480
Issued note in red: N#211762
I agree with that definition! If it's just to test machinery which this one was it wasn't issued by anyone therefore is exonumia
Can someone move the relevant notes then please?
I am guessing it is not possible to duplicate a page from banknotes into exonumia? I am going to be adding a lot of test notes, I got a bit hooked on those!

You can request a move yourself, at the top of the modification page. Check the fields, as not all of them get copied …
I just had a look: the sub-category “test notes / promotional notes” doesn't exist in paper exonumia, can someone add that?

testing inks is more likely, I think.
I would not put it in exonumia as it is a valid banknote design which was used - banknote collecotrs would not find it in exonumia. If it is to not have a listing of its own, then I would add it to the standard listing of the issued note in the comments section (so the picture can be included) with a listing in the dates section.
There are other world banknotes, examples of which are only available as prints in non-standard colours.
Can someone move the Kingfisher page to paper exonumia please? I cannot request it, it is not an option for me.
odd job

It is an option at the top of the change page:

But I'm still not sure in what section of paper exonumia it belongs …

Ta I chose Paper exonumia
It's a bad choice to choose the top level type. It's unsearchable by itself.
For sure banknote-like item, but then fantasy is the closest, though not exactly. I think we need a new category for this kind of items …
Maybe we can still dump them in the pattern section, but with an undetermined issuer (though only option there now is “UNKNOWN”), the system seems to allow me to just remove the issuer. It's not a nice solution but maybe best there is right now?
Let's call @Xavier back to figure the correct location.
The reason I started this up again is because I was going through my notes looking to see what needed to be updated on Numista.
I have all my exonumia grouped by printer. Yet when I tried to find my De La Rue Varinota note I could not. Exonumia returned no hits. I had to tick banknotes also. That's fine if you know the name of the note, but if you don't you'll never find it because you'll be searching every De La Rue banknote in the system.
What would be good then is a category such as “printer's demonstration note” since that covers the majority of what we are calling test notes anyway.
I agree with whoever it was who said these are not banknotes, not banknote patterns and not banknote trials.
They aren't fantasy notes either. I see a fantasy note as a dream or a wish or an artistic reinvention, but a printer's demonstration often has a booklet with a list of security features and new technologies. Elements of a demonstration note can be put into production for a multitude of real banknotes.
So they aren't fantasy notes. But they aren't banknote trials either, because any one demonstration note is not the precursor to an issued note.
They are perhaps the biggest category of exonumia without an accurate category.

Which category do you suggest for a printers test note? Its not testing a design more the manufacture process from what i can see.
From the categories we have they are closesest the Fantasy banknotes as they often have similar design elements albeit often without some kind of denomination.
Technically they are advertisment.

I'm not suggesting any category. I was just pointing out the problem when objects use the top level type.
See here for discussions of the problem:
Selecting items in top level categories and not in subcategories
Do we therefore need a new category?

Do we therefore need a new category?
yes, probably … unless we create an “enterprise” issuer to dump all non-official test/trial-notes in the banknotes pattern-section…
Lets await a master referee to appear with their wisdom…
I vote we have a new category entitled “Demonstration or technical sample note”
odd job
I vote we have a new category entitled “Demonstration or technical sample note”
I second that.
Agreed, should be in a separate category.
Paper exonumia / Banknote-like items / ATM and Printers' test notes.
