Hi chuxway. Thanks for the post. For clarity, the user is asking what is the difference between these 2 Numista pages:
(1) N#3863
(1968-1989)
(2) N#364
(1979-1989)
I will refer to these as #1 and #2. I fully understand why #1 exists. However, I have no idea why #2 exists.
#2 lists the "Smaller Queen's Portrait" year lines (1979-1989) as a separate web page. But that information already appears in #1.
A merging proces is in progressby @StoneTemple123 . Page 2 should disappear after completion.

. . . I don't understand why these two different types should be merged.
Good question. Because KM #74 (Edit: I accidentally wrote KM#62b initially) is already represented in #1 and still belongs to the "Elizabeth II with Tiara/Caribou" issue. Canada changed to the reduced portrait beginning in 1979 in order to standardize coinage. But the Canadian quarter issued in years 1979-1989 still belongs to the “Elizabeth II with Tiara/Caribou” issue.
The reduced effigy is already documented (and included) in #1 along with Charlton Catalog references in #1.
Having said all of that, if you want to break out years 1979-1989 into a separate webpage, you would have to remove all of those existing year lines from #1 due to the obvious duplication which currently exists across both Numista pages (#1 and #2 cited above). I don't see anything "purist" about breaking the reduced effigy out into its own webpage since it already belongs to the same "Elizabeth II with Tiara/Caribou" issue.
In 1979, the entire denomination range (1 cent, 5 cents, 10 cents, 25 cents) was modified, and the obverse of the Queen was reduced. In the numista catalogs, the 1 cent, 5 cent and 10 cent of that year all had a note indicating this information (not by me), except for the 25 cent. In order to standardize the catalogs, this weekend I asked for the 25 cents to be merged, which is why you see 2 catalogs. If the 1 cent, 5 cent and 10 cent had this notation, it's probably because it had already been discussed in the past and merged.
Three different KM# numbers and 1 subnumber all merged together and NOWHERE in the yearlines or comments sector is mentioned which ones are KM# 72a, KM# 73, KM# 77.1 or KM# 77.2. Type collectors will love this.
We're moving backwards in stead of forwards. What's the next step: merging ALL the types with Queen Elizabeth?
Perfect, I have no problem changing and I even like it better. I'm starting the modifications! :)
