Steel Type?

I have a 1925 1 & 5 Reichsmark but they're steel not silver…counterfeit or is their another type I'm not seeing on Numista?

5 marks in 1925 are patterns or commemorative. Not the coin you started discussion on. At least one of the patterns was on silver plated bronze.

I suspect that your steel detector is magnet. So you should probably ask if coins should stick to magnet. Interwar marks in circulation were .50 silver before foreign artist with funny mustache and his friends changed coin composition. 50% silver means that other 50% is something else.

I appreciate the information provided but haven't been able to find anything related online.  I started with the 1 Reichsmark with this discussion, but also have a 3 and 5 Reichsmark that are also steel as it relates.

You're correct in that I used a magnet, and at .500 silver it wouldn't snap to the magnet, plus one appears to have some rust spotting.

If you have a source online I could read about a pattern that would be appreciated!

Search for 'germany 1925 mark' or try searching in Numista and make sure that you do not have type filters turned on.

There were no German Patterns of these coins made of steel.

Great information - thanks for the help!  It's interesting to see how miniature copies of these coins were made…wish they were the real versions but I'll keep them in my collection nonetheless!

These miniatures where sold as play money. I added some info here

Always interested to swap.

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!
