Help with Roman Coin [επιλυμένο]

3 αναρτήσεις • προβλήθηκε 70 φορές

here is what I know

OBS - “ IMMCONSTA-NTINVSANG ”

portrait of Constantine 1, laureate wearing a high crested helmet, cuirassed, facing right,

REV - " VICTORIAELAETAEPRINPERP "

2 victories holding a shield with " VOT PR " resting on an altar

and below the altar is “ PARL ”

So the problem is I can find everything but the PARL, I can find SARL , PLN and other mint locations. Does this mean Arelatum, Constantina (modern day Arles, France)? The “ P ” stands for money and “ ARL ” stands for the city? I can find no references and feel like I am guessing.

Thank you

Hey,

maybe this is your coin:

http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.7.ar.194

or this one: http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.7.ar.191 (N#133290)

Here for comparison a similar coin (inscription of the obverse is different (additional “MAX”)):

N#237952

Yes you´re right. The mintmark “ARL” stands for Arelatum. “P” for Primus, so for the first officina.

The inscription is: VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP | VOT PR

The obverse inscription: IMP CONSTANTINVS AVG

Hope that helped.

Thank you. I had not noticed the bottom of the page where it had the PARL explained. That I believe is my coin.
