1994 1£ coin
Edge lettering facing supposedly the wrong way
Pics taken from an Etsy ad as after going through a collection I bought I have the same coin but from a few different years
There is no correct orientation of the edge lettering. Both ways are normal.
Is this the same Etsy add that states, “The coin's unique bimetallic composition features a nickel-brass outer ring and a nickel inner disc, beautifully combining aesthetics with durability.” ever though the composition isn't bimetallic? How does anyone believe this crap?
This not an error on the 1983 coat of arms loads on eBay?
Two different minting stages.
The edge is put on the blank.
They get ejected from that machine into a large container.
That then gets taken to the next machine - stamping obverse/reverse at the same time.
So it is random which way up they are. Like tossing a coin, a 50/50 chance.
There is a Royal Mint website link that explains it somewhere on here.
Those eBay pages are misleading - either deliberately or intentionally -
but either way they are wrong.
There is this link from eight years ago >

Edit - just tried that Royal Mint link in that reply to see if was still there, and it was
removed some time between then and now. But, hooray - replaced now with this >
