What years were these made?

I recently got this two banknotes (N#202330) and (N#202012) from a teacher and when trying to get information onto a spreadsheet I had the question on the year. The banknotes say 1988 but when looking at the Numista pages they say"1988 (1989)"

That left me confused since what does 1988 (1989) mean. Any help would be apperaciated :)

That usually means that the date on the note, 1988, differs from the actual production date, 1989. That happens a lot with coins and banknotes.

Just making sure so they were dated 1988 on the banknotes, but were actually made in 1989

Or it could mean that the note was printed in 1988 and issued in 1989.
