I stumpled upon these coins from Monaco and couldn't figure out the differance..?

Between these two for instance:

N#6368

N#24958

Or these two:

N#6367

N#24956

The KM number is almost the same. I can't see the material being different (or maybe that's a mistake..?), weight or diameter. Could be the size of the text on the 5 Centimes, but could also be the angle of the picture.

Thanks in advance :D

The SCWC considered them different…..

Different materials and manufacturing technique.  So, is SCWC or Numista correct?

.

@Mr. Midnight

If you look at the four Numista pages there is a color difference between the 95.* and the 95.*a. I see a similar difference in the coins I own.

Has anyone used XRF on the coins to see if there is an actual metal difference?

If you can trust the pictures to be on the correct pages.  Maybe ask @HerveMonaco how he knew which were which.

Hello Jamptrup

Small head, the tip of the neck reaches the middle of the H
Big head, the tip of the neck reaches the bottom of the H
This coin exists either in red copper or in yellow copper, here are the photos of the 4 different currencies that you can find on my site

So cast brass vs. struck copper?

So cast brass vs. struck copper?

It' a question of translation

cuivre rouge = red copper

cuivre jaune = yellow copper or brass

Yes, but both are being translated to "copper" on the English page.  The English coin page should be changed to composition Brass which answers the original question of the post.  Is Technique  Milled (Frappe à la presse) correct for all 4 coins?  SCWC says cast for two of them.

It's Mr. Midnight who is Monaco's referent for the English language

He must change the compositions in … red copper and yellow copper

Yes, the press striking technique is correct, these coins were struck in the workshop of the Prince's Palace with a Droz pendulum purchased from the Paris Mint, it is noted in the comments on the sheet in French.

I modified the compositions myself

Thanks. I referenced Mr. Midnight in my original post, however since the pictures were yours I also included you.

No problem, everything is OK for you now ?

My understanding is brass translates as cuivre jaune or laiton.

This is why KM has it as brass, so two of these are best represented as brass in their English listings.

That's right
