Finland 2 euro valuations

I'm confused why Finnish 2 euro commemoratives have such high valuations on Numista but also elsewhere. The mintage numbers are not particularly low. Some coins have values of 5 to 6 euro with mintages not that far off the 1 million mark (e.g 800k of this one,  unc just shy of 6 euro N#220248). For other countries much lower mintages have substantially lower valuations (e.g 400k but only 3 euro N#324799).

Where is this coming from?

Distribution.

Mintage is only one important factor in the value of these coins. The other is how easily coin dealers (and collectors) can get their hands on it. If they can get hold of rolls easily the price is rather low. If it is difficult to get rolls, the price goes up. And if €2cc are mixed with regular finnish €2 coins the price is also high. Most famous coin is the first finnish €2 from 2004. It was mixed with regular 2004-dated finnish €2. It was rather easy to find regular dated-2004 finnish €2 coins in change here in Germany in those years. Clearly, many rolls were searched for it and the rest was dumped into circualtion.

That is the main reason why 2 eur coins are so expensive in Finland: “In Finland, collector coins, €2 commemorative coins, as well as 1 and 2 cent coins are sold by Suomen Moneta (Oy Nordic Moneta Ab)

That company has the exclusive right to sell euro coins and they have raised the prices very much in recent years.

Slightly off topic … I collect Commemorative €2 coins and try to get most of them. Some are way too expensive so I pass on them.

Anyway regarding Finland €2 Commemorative coins, I find them very poorly designed. Not much thought goes into them compared to the 2 CC coins from other places.

Compare these 3 from Finland….

with these 3 from Italy, Germany & France.

The amount of detail and work that has gone into the 3 below is incredible but the Finland ones look like a child designed them.

The 3 Finnish ones are commemorating the following…

Independance, Constitution Act & Social & Health services. But how would you know that by looking at them?

Come on Finland .. you can do better.

I think that's what they call "Modern Art".

The Finnish designs are really underwhelming. The 2022 ballet one looks more like a chicken …

Yes how would you know what it is all about?

They could have done a beautiful design with Ballet Dancers but no . . lets have a chicken.

At least you can see the Year/Date of the coin easily lol.

Finland is a cradle of modern design. Every Country spreads its culture throught commemorative coins. That's the case.
