Die crack or PMD?

Hi,

I recently got one of these: N#9794

And am trying to understand whether it has a die crack (or some other, for lack of other word, error) or just PMD on the reverse at 10 o'clock

Grateful for any opinions!

Cheers

To me it looks like a split in the material rather than raised material that would happen with a die crack.  It also extends to the rim. Is it visible on the edge?

It's not visible on the edge. Looking at the rim, it looks like a nick, in the field and on the design it's a bit harder to see. I think the part where it just makes one part of the leave look ‘higher’ than the rest gives the false impression of extra material.

Here's some stronger magnification:

Actually that makes me think more PMD

Agree. PMD Maybe caused by whatever damaged it at the top.  Here's some more that I didn't see before:

Many thanks rsirian! 🙏

I think it's a combination between a die crack at 12 o'clock and a lamination issue at 10 o'clock - neither is damage.

there does appear to be some upwelling of material just below the I .

I'm starting to really like this coin. Dirt cheap and I'm learning new things - thanks for pointing me in that direction!
