What is a mint token , and what are its history [επιλυμένο]

Specifically i asked this due to the fact i discovered and catalogued this “mint token”

but what specifically is a mint token and what role did it play in the mint/token and what its history is in general 

It's just a little metal thingy that is often put in year sets that usually has the year on it and often some other motive to. It can be a base metal or silver, be plain or elaborate.

At least that's how I understand this category, there are also objects you can make in a mint as a souvenir but I think I would put those under souvenir medals.

Yours was probably given out by the Mexico Mint to people that took a tour of the mint.
