I'm thinking that we should have a separate calendar for the Ottoman emperors.
Whenever a change is made to the years list, all the years are messed up so we need to fix that by having separate calendars instead of the AH calendar.

I have to agree with SmartOne and I have posted here previously that the Numista catalogue is not set up to correctly receive Ottoman coins. As far as I am aware, the generally accepted format for listing Ottoman mintage years is [accession year]/[regnal year], for example 1327/8, or I think Krause sometimes uses two obliques such as "//". Unfortunately, although different people have tried various different ways to indicate the years, currently there is no way that the Numista listing page can accomodate the standard indicated above. Perhaps the Site Administrator may be able to modify the system but it has been this way for a long time and I, for one, am not holding my breath.

I totally agree with all arguments above. unfortunately the system is not able to manage Ottomans now and, I mostly agree with your statement, Radrick, it is just not going to happen:

Hey Imreh, haven't seen you in a while.
We should definitely use the regnal calendars; problem is, people would recognize the coins by the date in Arabic rather than the regnal year. Therefore, I think we should have the ascession date in paranthesis in the coin title or in the description field.

I know Ottoman Empire coins are not among the favorites of the western collectors, but they are quite important, and I like collecting them and I think I am not alone, so a solution must be found. I managed to edit the dates on my coin, since nobody touched it for several days... https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces40893.html

It is difficult for westerners to identify them, that might be a reason (1), just like, although I love Chinese coins, I am hopeless with them till SmartOne helps to identify .
Plus, the Turkish Law (2) does not let you collect anything old, but the last 6 emperors, so the market scene in the "home country" is very vague, therefore we need to count on the trade of the Balkans, where the Communists did a good job to get rid of the coins and sell or melt them ... so it is just difficult
I don't collect ancient irregular shaped coin, as "akçe" for example, but even haven't seen any around. The communists melted a lot of Ottoman coins it is true, and many were sold abroad Albania as well, still nowadays.
I have only 15 Ottoman Empire coins, of which only 2 of Mahmud II, the rest are later issues.I collect by type only. The market has plenty of Mehmet V issues, including silver Kurush's and gold pieces as well. But even earlier issues can be found. The problem is the coins are not in the best of conditions as they were mostly used as "monaies de luxe" from the local people, often holed and mounted.
But I like collecting them as they widely circulated in Albania, as were part of Ottoman Empire since 1912...

I have been to Turkey a couple of times and I only have a modest collection of Ottoman coins but they are special to me because I got most of them from an antique seller in the bazaar in Istanbul:
As you can see, I have grouped them in denomination order and by ruler (as Krause). When I look at my collection on Numista, it looks nothing like this because there seems to be a strange, random order for the listings in the Numista catalogue. Will anything be done to put the catalogue in order ... ?
