Hi. I have two Egyptian gold coins and I'm wondering where I can value/sell them?
Are they just worth their melt value or are they collector pieces?
One is yellow gold and the other rose.. Im in Australia.
Welcome to Numista. Here are my thoughts on this. First, you cannot sell them here. Rose? That is a little concerning. Could you elaborate? Without passing judgement on authenticity at this point, the realities are this if authentic. Unfortunately, my experience is this with gold coins as a whole and believe me, I have had my fair share of beautiful and historic gold coins from many nations over the years. Sovereigns, Yen, Lira, Marks, Guilders, Francs, etc The overwhelming majority out there in this world see this piece as a potential hunk of gold. Nothing more. To coin collectors that is unthinkable but that is the reality. You must find someone interested in this specific Egyptian coin who has the means and desire to pay a premium over melt value. It is not easy finding that person. Therefore, always start with melt value. Beautiful, historic, low mintage, etc. It has potential if authentic. Good luck with it.
Thank you. I wasn’t trying to sell them here - just after information. Have no idea about coin collection,. Sorry you are concerned. The coins are authentic.
Hello,if You will just google the name of this topic ( but Fuad instead of Faud) , YOu will get a complete information about price, selling history, grades, and so on
regards
David
That is a superb piece. It should be authenticated and graded by NGC. If it is to be sold, a high profile auction house should be contacted.
I have a special interest in post Ottoman Egypt. I would love to have such a coin in my collection, but it is out of reach for me, presently.
As a point of historical interest, for someone searching for Egyptian coins of that era, Australia is the place to look. Many ANZAC soldiers were stationed there for quite a while, with not much to do. Coin collecting was popular enough among those thousands of men, that latterly masses being brought home, the inventory is better in OZ than it is in Egypt. Also Syria and Palestine.
I collect African coins, and have everything by type from egypt, but, also, stopped, as gold coins are out of my budget…
You have a well-known auction house in Sydney you can use: https://www.noble.com.au
Lovely coin, good luck! (and be careful not to touch the surfaces in case it has a proof finish)
