I have a very worn Queen Victoria Florin, probably the Gothic type, and was wondering if anyone can read the date as only the last 3 characters are left.
Weight 10 to 11 grams
Many thanks

I think it's either L I V for 1854 or X I V for 1864 or 1874.
Going to be a tough call.
Look at this…
I googled some images for the:
What is left on chipdale66's coin is without doubt -xiv, so 1864
Thank you all for your help. I agree that it is iv so that gives me a 4, so it is just a question of whether it is an x (so could be x, xx, or xxx so would be 1864, 1874, or 1884) or if it is an l then it would be 1854. I will have to get some more images and try overlapping them in image processing software after work.
Thanks again.
Andrew
looks like the character is short so would be the x as the l is taller in other photos

Thanks, I agree. In your two photo links the x is smaller than the l, and the x is the same height as the i. With my coin the character is the same height as the i so that would mean it is an x.
Perhaps rejoiced a little bit too early: it could still be either 1864 (-lxiv), 1874 (-lxxiv), or 1884 (-lxxxiv).

Indeed 😁.
Might be able to see how long the inscription is as there is a REG still visible at the start of my inscription
