Howdy folks! I recently got a thie Roman Coin from a local shop. Its obviously a Sestertius of Philip II but i cant explain the silver color. Is this a strange toning or maybe someone trying to pass it off as something else? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks!

Specifications: 20.4 g. 28.7 mm

I wish you a nice weekend.

It seems to me as if in the past, maybe 50-70 years ,, someone got an idea while cleaning the coin- that something so old and rare must also be silver , to sell it better and for more)

it is coating with silver or pleating - bath and silver plating, it can be seen that the letter,, P,, is not inside and the coating is also lost around the raised relief:

I believe the inside of the coin is bronze

This is my view and opinion from the first shot, I would recommend analysis through a metal detector .

Thank you my friend. I have determined your theory is true it is a thin layer of silver over the coin. Thank you again have a wonderful weekend! even with the odd state of the coin i do like it
