Ahoj.

The robot is certainly not responsible for this mistake - the coin should have been cut without a pendant.

It just doesn't look like the patina of a gold coin to me - that should be judged by an expert.

Just 100 pieces is something exceptional - that's not up to our judgement.

,, I have to add that I looked wrong, it's the bad light when taking pictures, try to take a better picture-and don't look for sales with such a small amount it should be a miracle, it's really valuable at a stone auction right in Hungary or rather "Vienna in Austria",,

Ivan

I agree totally.    It doesn't really look like gold.     I think I'll  take it to a jeweler we've dealt with over the years and see if he will be able to tell me if it's gold.   Many thanks Ivan, for guiding me to the next step.

What have you already looked at?

I did a quick search and couldn't find this medallion struck in anything other than gold. Under bad lighting gold could very well end up looking like this. First off measure its diameter and weight, that will give us an indication weather it could be gold or not.

I found one sold listing and it was around bullion value so I'm guessing if real that will be the value you're looking at.

EDIT: found another sold listing for 2400$ which is way above bullion value so I guess the selling price will vary a lot and depend on luck: https://www.coinarchives.com/w/lotviewer.php?LotID=5892197&AucID=6739&Lot=1445&Val=b159991b0893940ab30a6c559a68c2ec

I collect and deal in ancient Roman coin. In case you're looking for affordable ancient coins or need any help with the coins you already have send me a message.

Looked at it in the sun and it looked more like gold,  I guess.   Coin Diameter is ~3.4 cm.    Didn't want to remove the outer part so didn't think weight would help.

It would help as gold is significantly heavier than silver or gold plated bronze so if this is gold it should weigh at least 31.33 g which is the weight of a genuine gold 50 Pengo. If the weight is lower than that then it isn't gold. No need to remove it, just weigh the entire thing together and see if it's above 31.33 g.

Looks clearly silver to me, you would need very strange lightning or an uncalibrated image sensor to offset the color of 900 gold that much.

Maybe there were also silver versions of this medal, it is also nowhere said that the number has anything to do with a currency value so they could use the same dies.

I agree it looks more like silver than gold and the first thing I did was try to find silver strikes both in Hungarian and English but found nothing. I remember reading Hungarian Pengo coins are notorious for being restruck during the communist government in large quantities and different metals in order to make a quick profit but don't remember exactly when that was done. I forgot what exactly those restrikes were called. As this is struck in 1969. and in Switzerland it could have avoided restrikes.

Just weighed the entire object;  it clocked in at 43 grams.  Perhaps promising?

My jeweler responded as well,  stating that he'd need to do an acid test and perhaps I should see what the coin dealers have to say as the acid can scar the coin.

My thought is that if it's probably just worth the bullion value why not get him to do the acid?

ffodemes

Definitely promising. If it was my coin I'd have no problem doing a gold acid test. Let us know the results. 🙂

The jewelry piece looks like it's got a significant heft to it, I could see it being about 20g and the coin also around 20g. If this were my coin, I'd take it out of the enclosure, do a density test and a ping test. If it passes both, then it gold. But from the picture it doesn't look like gold at all. Maybe it's a fake that resembled gold when it was new, and has since lost its original luster. Gold simply doesn't oxidize like that.

I overlaid your coin over the gold one. Looks like there's some misalignment present.
