Hi.
A while ago I found this fragment of a silver coin.
It appears to be a third of what it was when it was complete. As it happens it broke Again when it became stuck in my pocket. so I’ve glued this back together.
what I would like to ask is if it’s possible to narrow down how old this is at least? It’s hammered no doubt. also I suspect it is billon as it broke so easily.
Found In czech but may very well have links to Germany.
It would be wonderful to know exactly what it is. But really it would be curious enough just to get a rough age, as this would determine how old the site it was found on dates back to.
I’m assuming medieval in my ignorance. But if it was let’s say Saxon or something? that would offer a lot more potential to the site. I doubt it is. But dating this would be very helpful.
So I’ve overlaid It onto another coin which it fits over perfectly. That coin is 28mm. So that’s what I’m going with.
It is very thin as they go too.
Any insight would be much appreciate!
