1942 Australia penny

Hello!

I recently picked up this penny to add my collection of WWII coins. After taking it to the catalogue, however, I am in a bit of a dilemma. The catalogue lists no variant that I can find to match this coin. This has no dots that I can find on either side of “PENNY”, which should indicate Melbourne mint, but the catalogue lists no Melbourne mint coins for 1942.

Counterfeit comes to mind, but this is a pretty clever copy if is one. There is significant ghosting (the image from the opposite side can be seen) on both sides of the coin that comes through a bit in the scans, but is much more noticeable looking at the coin itself.

Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance!

I will add the link then.

Yes, that is the catalogue page I referred to. There is still no Melbourne mint mentioned for 1942.

Did you check for the “I” for India?

Yours is a Perth Mint Coin. No Penny's were minted at the Melbourne Mint in 1942.

The Dot after the “Y” on the word PENNY is very very small on the Perth Mint 1952 coins. I have got a much better quality one than yours and it is very hard to see on mine. This is my Perth Mint 1942 Penny….

This is my Bombay Mint 1942 Penny …. The Dots on the Bombay coins are much larger.

Your coin is very worn and the dot has just disappeared. It is a Perth mint coin
