Gross Bohemond VII

I got a Bohemond VII penny, everything looks ok, only the weight is 3 grams heavier. Nice patina, slight corrosion.  Is it a fake period, an attempt at a stamp or something else.  Please help.  Regards Mariusz.

Welcome to Numista. Looks to be authentic on the face of it or a really good replica.  What did your example weigh in at? Is your scale accurate? Diameter? Did you check composition as to silver content?

If the weight is 3 grams heavier, it is probably a replica made in base metal.  As suggested by Harryg, if you can check silver content that would help confirm.

It looks perfectly round, which is often not a good sign for a medieval coin.

I think it's a copy, weight 7.62, diameter 24.6 to 24.9, thickness 1.5.  I made a test with a cutter and flakes come off like glitter.  It is not a patina.  Thank you and best regards.
